[NEWS] “Suge Knight” Hires New Attorney to Represent Him

suge

Former rap tycoon Marion “Suge” Knight hired a new attorney Monday to represent him against accusations that he criminally threatened the man who directed “Straight Outta Compton.”

Knight’s decision to hire criminal defense attorney Dominique E. Baños to replace Matthew Fletcher — who also briefly represented Knight in his ongoing murder case — cleared up a potential conflict of interest in the criminal threats case.Last month, prosecutors filed a motion saying they’d gathered evidence of possible witness tampering, bribery and obstruction of justice by Fletcher in the murder case and asked the court to conduct an independent inquiry into whether his representing Knight in the threats case was a conflict of interest.

According to the motion filed by prosecutors, Fletcher had conversations with Knight and two others that showed the group understood “they were going to assist the defendant in procuring witnesses for his defense, which included payments for fabricated testimony.” Fletcher denied wrongdoing at the time, telling The Times that prosecutors had taken his words out of context.

Hip Hop of that era has been on trial for Twenty years this is the last Cowboy standing . Life in prison looks to be his fate ; Now cooperate gangters do the same and worse and spend not a day in prison. Suge is still innocent until proven guilty .

[Entertainment] “A Humbled Nicki Minaj”

Nick Fox

We all have heard many words to describe Nicki Minaj, but humble is not one that comes up in conversation too often.

Minaj has a pretty lengthy list of public beefs including on going war for rap queen with fellow female rapper Remy Ma, initiating back in 2007, when Minaj was first gaining momentum in her rap career. Since then the shots have been fired from both sides, giving us great beef tracks such as Minaj’s No Frauds and Remy’s Shether.  Others who join Remy on Minaj’s long list of beefs are Lil Kim, who has always felt that Minaj needed to pay homage as she claims Minaj has stolen her style which made her Queen B in the 90’s. Taylor Swift who found herself on the wrong side of Minaj’s tweet addressing unfair practices in the music industry. And of course who can forget Minaj confronting Miley Cyrus at the 2015 VMAs, “… and now back to this b**** that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press, Miley, what’s good, ” after Cyrus commented on Minaj and Swift’s twitter feud to the press.

While we have all enjoyed her sassy clap back ways, it must be admitted that in moments of humility Minaj seems to truly shine and captivate her fans.

First paying the ultimate homage to legendary Lauren Hill by bowing down to the ground in her, what I can only imagine to be, overwhelmingly awesome presence. Video captured Minaj’s sincere words, “I’m in love with you… I’m in love with your spirit, your mind, everything about you,” clearly expressing the honor she felt in meet her idol.

Minaj has now displayed her admiration for female rapper Foxy Brown. On Brown’s 39th birthday Minaj admitted proudly, ” I may have never even started rapping if it wasn’t for her,” on her Instagram page.  She went on to say, “She’s still the only thing I compete w/when it comes to precision of flow, delivery & execution.”

Not sure if Minaj has turned over a new leaf  or if she is simply giving props where they are deserved. Either way, these moments give us a well rounded view of the hip hop superstar.

[INTERVIEW] Janiro Hawkins Co-owner of “The Southern Entertainment Awards: Sets The Record Straight

SEA2018_cruise

Latoya:(SOM) Thank you for taking the time out to answer a few questions for us regarding the SEA’s.  With the upcoming nominations being released and some people taking to social media to vent their frustrations, it would be a good time to really help them understand how this long running award ceremony works  and operates. I’ll jump right into it…Can you explain to the people what the SEA’s are, who owns/operates the ceremony with you, how long you have been doing it, and what AREA’S that the SEA’s cover?

Janiro: Jesse “Dj Infamous” and myself founded the Southern Entertainment Awards back in 2001 in Nashville, TN.  Our event is designed to cover all states in the South as well as individuals making noise in the South as well.  It is not limited to just one city, state or county.

Latoya:(SOM) What prompted you to create the awards and what is your position/involvement in the Music and Entertainment Industry outside of this, if any?

Janiro: Prior to creating the SEAs we owned and operated a local record store (Platinum Bound Records) in the heart of Nashville on Jefferson St. and saw a void and disconnect within the independent music scene as a whole.  We looked at the impact of the DJ and the lack of recognition artists were receiving and sought to make a difference.

Latoya (SOM): Start off by explaining the nomination process: the personal involvement of owners, how ballot is selected, qualifications to be on the ballot…

Janiro: We’ve maintained the same nomination/voting process for the past decade which is as follows.  Annually from May 1st – August, we have a blank ballot on our website for people to fill out.  At the end of that period, we tally up all of the nominations received to create the ballot.  The ballot is created by taking the top 15 individuals (by # of nominations received) in each category.  While there is no perfect way to conduct this process in any event, we feel that by doing it this way, this leaves the process totally up to those who go online and take the time out to fill out a ballot and out of our hands.  Does everyone who wants to be on the ballot get on it?  No, not at all and that is primarily because people all have different fan bases and each individual interacts differently with their own fan base.

Latoya (SOM): What dates do you typically run nominations from and what type of advertising is used to notify people that it is going on?

Janiro:  We promote and encourage people to go nominate their favorites in any category throughout the entire year whether it be in person, on panels, at various events, on social media and more.  Over the years we’ve run radio ads, placed magazine ads and even generated tv commercials, but when you’re covering over 13 states, it makes it virtually impossible to cover ever nook and cranny.

Latoya (SOM): What is the requirements of the nominees? Do they have to attend award shows, sell a portion of tickets, ect?

Janiro: In regards to requirements of those nominated, all we ask is that they let people know they’re nominated.  In the event that they’re unable to attend and they win, we mail their trophy to them at no cost.  No ticket sales are required, matter of fact, the upcoming 15th Annual Southern Ent Awards is FREE for anyone to attend, all they have to do is come take a vacation with us to Key West and Cozumel aboard our cruise with Carnival.

Latoya:(SOM) Once the ballot is dropped it seems that you have group of nominees who are happy and those that aren’t.  How do you address concerns that arise regarding the ballot selection?  Have you ever considered posting voting numbers to see how many people voted for who so there is no confusion on why someone got nominated and someone else didn’t?

Janiro: To anyone that has a concern, we open our doors to answer questions the best we can.  What typically ends up happening though is that these questions and concerns are always after the fact vs. prior to or during.  Those who opt not to ask, we can only continue to say that “we’re here, so inquire.”  Posting the numbers may do more harm than help because it’s truly lack of education of the process that causes the disconnect.

Latoya:(SOM) What is your advice for those that don’t necessarily know how to get themselves nominated? What steps do you encourage them to take to get themselves there?

Janiro: I advise them to do their due diligence and inquire to gain understanding instead of assuming.  We can be reached at: southernentawardsstaff@gmail.com and welcome any and all professional inquiries.

Latoya:(SOM) Why are these types of platforms important for people in the Music and Entertainment Industry?

Janiro: They stimulate growth, conversation and action while bringing people together to network and celebrate.  It is vital that we support platforms created by and for the hardworking individuals who take resources from the full time jobs to fund their passion.

Latoya: (SOM) When are the upcoming up Southern Ent Awards and how can people contact you?

Janiro: 15th Annual Southern Ent Awards (flyer attached) Social: @sea_awards  Email: southernentawardsstaff@gmail.com Bus 615.669.0012 Web: www.southernentawards.com

The production brings my creativeness. But I can just be randomly doing anything and a bar would just pop into my head, I stop immediately and note it in my phone cut on the beat and vibe off of it. [NEWS] New data reveals which streaming platform pays artists the most royalties

spotify

It’s certainly not YouTube…

A new study analyzing artist payouts from industry leading music streaming platforms, revealed that YouTube pays royalties at a rate that’s far less than its competitors like Apple Music and Spotify.

With streaming services dominating the way listeners consume music, artist royalties has been a major topic of discussion. Mixmag previously crunched number with regards to what DJs earn, but what do artists earn from streaming platforms? Thanks to the people at Information is Beautiful (IiB) and the label trade group RIAA, we now have an idea.

New data reveals which streaming platform pays artists the most royalties

A new study analyzing artist payouts from industry leading music streaming platforms, revealed that YouTube pays royalties at a rate that’s far less than its competitors like Apple Music and Spotify.

With streaming services dominating the way listeners consume music, artist royalties has been a major topic of discussion. Mixmag previously crunched number with regards to what DJs earn, but what do artists earn from streaming platforms? Thanks to the people at Information is Beautiful (IiB) and the label trade group RIAA, we now have an idea.

As reported by Digital Music News, IiB compiled data from artists and other sources and found there is a major drop from what artists get paid for streams on Apple Music and Spotify than what they could earn from YouTube. For every 1,000 plays, an unsigned artist can earn $6.40 from Apple Music and $3.80 from Spotify, but YouTube only pays out $0.60 per 1,000 streams.

Signed artists have the opportunity to earn more from each platform, $7.30 from Apple Music, $4.40 from Spotify and just $0.70 from Youtube for every 1,000 plays.

The RIAA, which compiled data from Nielsen, BuzzAngle, and MiDIA Research earlier this year, found different numbers, but a common trend as well. For every 1,000 streams Apple Music pays about $12, Spotify pays almost $7.50 and YouTube, which again is much lower than competitors, pays out just $1.50.

Youtube executive Lyor Cohen recently wrote a blog post to defend the platform against critics: “At over $3 per thousand streams in the U.S., YouTube is paying out more than other ad supported services.”

In other streaming related news, revenue from such platforms grew 60 per cent last year and is “driving the recovery of the music industry“.

[NEWS] Jay-Z and Beyonce Pay $88 Million for Los Angeles Mansion

jay-z-beyonce

Earlier this year, it was revealed JAY-Z and his superstar wife Beyoncé had officially earned the status of billion-dollar couple—and boy, have they been acting like it. According to the Los Angeles Times, the iconic husband and wife recently copped themselves an $88 million mansion out in L.A.

The publication reports Hov and Bey paid for their Bel-Air mansion through blind trusts, and now carry a mortgage of $52.8 million mortgage for their new home. They’ll pay $252,075 per month for roughly 30 years. It’s probably a worthwhile price to pay for a crib that’s better described as a modernized, imperial wonderland than as a “swanky mansion.”

Hov and Bey’s new crib, which was developed by Dave McKillen, is composed of six buildings and spans about 30,000 square-feet. It includes a basketball court, four outdoor swimming pools, a wellness center, a media room, a spa and quarters for staff members. It rests behind gates and on two lush green acres of land. Blue Ivy and her new twin siblings will have a blast playing manhunt.

The Los Angeles Times claim Jay and Bey’s purchase is Los Angeles County’s highest sale of 2017 so far, and it’s the sixth biggest sale of a single family home. Pretty insane stuff, but considering who we’re talking about, we shouldn’t be surprised

[NEWS] Joey Badass Needs to Wear Special Glasses Due to Doctor’s Orders

joey-badass-devastated-brillance

Joey Bada$$ is following doctor’s orders to protect his eyes.

On Instagram today (Aug. 24), the rapper showed off a new pair of glasses that were apparently prescribed to him. “Doc said I gotta keep these on in the daytime now…. a lil annoying but they’re pretty fire,” he wrote.

There is no telling if this is a hoax or not, but many fans believe the eclipse is to blame for the Brooklyn MC’s new fashion choice. On Monday (Aug. 21), Joey tweeted, “Am I crazy for watching the eclipse today w no glasses? I’ve sungazed before and afterwards saw colors for a whole day. I didn’t die tho.”

A day later on Aug. 22, Joey announced on Twitter that he was canceling three of his upcoming performances on Logic’s Everybody Tour, in Cleveland, Chicago and Toronto. Joey’s tweet read, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, my Cleveland, Chicago & Toronto shows on the #EverybodyTour are cancelled.”

Many are jumping to the conclusion that Joey’s time staring at the sun is the cause of the new glasses. Despite the setback, the Brooklyn rapper is having a stellar August. In the last three weeks, the All-Amerikkan Bada$$ rapper has released the visual for “Temptations,” starred in Pony’s fall 2017 campaign and freestlyed with Logic during a break on their tour.

We hope the Pro Era general gets better soon and learns a very valuable lesson. Next time there is an eclipse, he should be like everyone else and protect his eyes.

XXL reached out to Joey Bada$$’s team for comment about his new specs. Take a look at his new look below.
