Our prayers go out to the family of 2017 XXXTentacion, who was fatally shot this afternoon (June 18).
According to TMZ, the late rapper, born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was allegedly shopping for a motorcycle at Riva Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Fla. when a gunman approached him and began firing around 3:57 p.m. EST. At 5:40 p.m. EST he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the news of his death, XXXTentacion was admitted to a local hospital and had been listed as a level 1 trauma patient, with audio dispatch calling the incident “a possible drive-by.” Witnesses allege a Louis Vuitton bag was taken from the “Moonlight” rhymer’s vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Upon hearing the initial news of XXX getting shot, dozens of hip-hop artists and producers jumped on Twitter and Instagram to voice their heartbreak. Joey Bada$$, who’s featured on XXX’s No. 1-selling album, ?, almost immediately tweeted out “Praying for my brother X.” The two collaborators hinted at a joint project due out sometime this year.
After dealing with touchy allegations over the past year, XXXTentacion set out to do good by his home state. The Florida native was currently planning to launch his Helping Hand Foundation with his mother, and held a benefit concert for victims of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
Rest in peace, XXXTentacion.
