Maribased 1 – Score’N (Video)

MariBased1 is widely considered one of the faces of the next generation of the Seattle Hip Hop scene. His name is an homage to Lil B, a mixture of the first part of his name MARI then adding the BASED to it.  Lastly the “1” was added because he is the 1.  From the northern parts of the inner city of Seattle, Washington, Maribased has been crowned by the Seattle Sound Music Awards winning Best Mixtape and recently copped “Breakout Artist” for last years West Coast Hip Hop Awards. His accolades do not end there, as Maribased1 is currently Top 10 on the Top 20 Movers N Shakers list in his hometown. Kicking the summer off he has dropped his Mariotto 2 project featuring popular track Score’N. Watch the video below:

JC Live Experience Spotlight: Artist Donovan Cain

New artist Donovan Cain sits down with JC Live for an exclusive interview discussing his new project, music background and more.

Interview:

What made you want to be in the music industry?

I’ve always had an endless love for music. Even when it frustrates me or I can’t create the song I’m aiming for, it still keeps me coming back or may even help me create something better that what I was reaching for. Plus just the business aspect of music is intriguing to me, it’s almost like a game of chess trying to place yourself in better position when others are trying to do the same on the back of your hard work. Music gives me peace and helps me find a calm through the storms I battle internally.

Where are you from?

I’m Red Springs, NC.

Who are your musical influences?

I’m influenced by people I’ve grown up with and used to do music with, and mostly financially successful rappers from Jay Z to T.I. Or any musician who creates something that I can relate to on a personal level.

What song(s)/Project do you have out right now?

I have a single out right called Forbidden Fruit feat Deja Bluu on all streaming platforms

Have any videos out for them?

Absolutely, the video is on YouTube

What future projects or events you have coming up?

Right now I’m working on a new project called Bag Talk, but haven’t decided whether I want to make a full album or do an EP. But I do have a new single dropping later this summer called I Gotta Stunt.

How important is networking in this industry?

I think networking is important in some aspects, I guess it depends on what position you’re in within the music industry. It’s good to have a healthy relationship with the djs and radio stations and any person who can help you with getting to that next level. But if you have that financial backing I think it cuts down on the amount of conversations you have to have to get where you’re going.

Are you open to any collaboration in the future?

Absolutely, I have a few on this Bag Talk project that some people may know and some may not, but I feel like the cats that I collab with we are all in a similar position. So when we get on songs we have the same objective, which is to leave a mark that will make listeners either remember us or be curious enough to search out more work.

What are your thoughts of the music scene in Fayetteville?

I think it’s pretty dope, there are a lot of dope artist in Fayetteville, but I feel like the city gets slept on a lot sometimes. I don’t think 910 artist take advantage of using each other build off of each other but everybody has their process that they feel they have to take. I can’t knock anybody for wanting to pave their own wave.

What are some inspirations behind your music?

Life is the biggest thing that inspires me. I’ve been in a lot positions that others have been in and some haven’t . I’ve been up where I can blow 2500 on the strippers and it not hurt nothing in my life and I’ve been down to where I gotta climb in my backseat to get sleep every night. So when it comes to music, life inspires it all.

Where can people find your music (mention all platforms)

You can find my single on Tidal, iTunes, soundcloud, youtube, deeper, Amazon music, Spotify, pretty platform that streams music

Have any shouts outs?

Huge shoutout to Chevy Muziq, Brizzo the Beast, Awethentic out of VA, VA Law, Big face Bennie, Mike Nyce, Deja Bluu the whole Believe or Die movement, Dominate 910, Producer 20, Cater J and the PGM house, Cool Cannon filmz, and any and all North Carolina artist, producer, or DJ out here trying to get it and leave their mark in the music industry.

What is something you want the audience to know about you or your music?

Don’t put me in a box, I’m not a trap rapper, I’m not a conscious rapper, or whatever realm of rapper you want to associate me with. I navigate in all those areas because I’ve lived in all off them at some point in time during my life.

Have anything you wanna add?

Support local and indie artist if you really like their music. It’s cool to tell them, oh your music is dope but if you can’t show them love and pay $2 to $5 for their music then those kudos really fall on deaf ears. Or in most cases aspiring artist really just want you to share their music, the internet is cool but word of mouth is a type of promotion that will never die. Also follow me on IG @donovancainmusic on Twitter @donivncain and Facebook @Donovan cain.

P.S. If you understood what we come from, you’d understand what we came for!
