Post Malone, the singer, songwriter, and rapper scored big time with his first single, “White Iverson,” eventually shooting up to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and landing him a major label deal with Republic Records. The tape has 18 tracks featuring “White Iverson,” plus follow-up singles “Too Young” and “Go Flex, ” and guest spots appear from Justin Bieber, Quavo, 2 Chainz, and Kehlani. Post previously hinted at the album release date with the title of his mixtape August 26th, but later explained on Twitter that it had been delayed, but here it is.

With today being the anniversary of Chad Butler aka Pimp C’s death we created a best of list. As one of the most iconic rappers, one cannot deny that the loss of Pimp C had a significant effect on the rap game. 753683b8140589fc9df4731589b6fbce340720f2As one-half of UGK team, along with his friend and rap partner Bun B, Pimp C was instrumental in shaping the sound and influence of Southern rap, which continues to dominate hip-hop today. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office (Dec. 4, 2007), the Texas rapper’s death was the result of an overdose that was triggered by a massive consumption of codeine medication combined with a pre-existing sleep condition. Chad Butler was one of the most culminating producers, and rappers the South has ever known. He shaped an exceedingly important subgenre all his own, called his songs “country rap tunes.” Butler was influenced by his father’s background and record crates. However, it was his stepfather, a band teacher, who deluged the producer with expensive recording equipment and spent late nights training him to synchronize vocal tracks manually.

Journalist and Southern rap expert Julia Beverly’s penned the biography ‘Sweet Jones: Pimp C’s Trill Life Story’ pimp-cabout the UGK rapper’s battle with the Texas legal system. She writes, ”put simply, Texas in the year 2000 was the worst time and place in history for anyone—especially a 26-year-old black man—to find himself in a courtroom.“ Chad was released a month after he was granted parole. He served about half of an eight-year sentence on an aggravated assault charge. After his release the Port Arthur native, began to speak about the Illuminati, “gay” artists, (immensely, and shockingly, citing Ne-Yo and Russell Simmons as examples), and southern rappers coming together as seen in the video below.

Pimp C will be truly missed from his rhymes to his outspoken nature. Check out Pimp C’s “Final Chapter” Documentary below.

Childish Gambino has shared his new album, Awaken, My Love! and it is groundbreaking, genre-defying music for the soul. The album includes the previously shared singles childish-gambino-awaken-my-love-cover“Me and Your Mama” and “Redbone,” the funky, soul, seemingly Jimi Hendrix inspired tape is Glover’s first Gambino album since the release of Because the Internet in 2013. In a recent interview with Billboard Gambino stated, “I remember listening to songs my dad would play—albums by the Isleys or Funkadelic—and not understanding the feeling I was feeling. “I remember hearing a Funkadelic scream and being like, ‘Wow, that’s sexual and it’s scary.’ Not having a name for that, though; just having a feeling. That’s what made it great… There’s something about that ’70s black music that felt like they were trying to start a revolution.” Also, the actor slash rapper slash producer shared a new virtual reality video of a ‘Me and Your Mama’ performance from his PHAROS concerts. This particular album finds Gambino abandoning rapping altogether for flutes, guitars, tribal beats and distorted, sometimes indecipherable verses. Glover explained to Billboard that these 11 songs are “an exercise in just feeling and tone.” Every track is featureless, with Gambino handling all the vocals. Childish Gambino‘s website has been updated with the vinyl copy of his project.
