[MUSIC VIDEO] JAY HAYES: PARANOID via @TenthLetterMed

The #SaturdaySpotlight is a device utilized by both TenthLetterMedia and Straight Official Magazine to capture and bring you the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop. We shine our collective light upon the Circle City and showcase emerging artists throughout the back roads of Nap.

Naptown’s cultivators of Hip-Hop are NOT gender specific. The landscape also includes a variety of female artists looking to stake claim in a realm dominated by their male counterparts.

JAY HAYES is a young and energetic femcee from the westside of the Circle City. Her quick delivery and style of flow are skills that are getting her noticed amidst the crowd of her peers. Jay is slated to release a mixtape titled Jayway this year and the single “Paranoid” will be a feature single from that release, featuring production from Frezhduzit.

Check out the dope visual for “Paranoid” shot by Quanny foo down below and follow Jay Hayes on both IG & Twitter. Stay tuned to Apple and Spotify for the Jayway release and TLM & SO Mag for your issue of the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop! #DueSeason #GetSOM

[MUSIC VIDEO] TRAJIK-REALER THAN FAKER via @TenthLetterMed

The tag team of TenthLetterMedia & Straight Official Magazine are back at you on your weekends with one of our favorite features known as the #SaturdaySpotlight where we shine our collective light upon the Circle City and it’s vast Hip-Hop landscape!

This week’s edition is not only a personal favorite of mine but, an artist who has for as long as I’ve known him, has been a consistent cultivator for Naptown with regards to both Hip-Hop and entertainment.

TRAJIK is Indy’s hottest native in the game right now as he’s riding the waves of not only his music releases, but also his venture into acting as the Traptown MC made his debut on the Emmy nominated FOX Series Empire. His appearance warranted a second take as Trajik landed a second role in the new series Proven Innocent on the FOX Network.

As a writer, I’m proud to have been there from the beginning and cover his success. The pic below is where we linked up off the heels of his From the Grit project release years back. Not only was his music and delivery different but, his convo was as well as he often spoke on reaching other levels in the industry in our interview. In all my years of journalism I have sat in front of some of my favorite artists in Hip-Hop but, nothing compares to when I get to do this with an artist from my city!!

His latest track Realer than Faker is making noise with solid production by Cheezzburger. Check out the dope visual down below and as always, we thank you for letting us bring you the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop and stay tuned to TLM and SOMAG!! #DueSeason #GetSOM

[OP-ED] State of the Hip-Hop Union: Indy 2019 via @TenthLetterMed

“Do I have everyone’s attention now?”-CM Punk

I had to quote the former WWE Superstar because of the relevancy of his inquiry. At the time he had dropped his legendary “pipe bomb” that shook up the wrestling world. Over the past year, TenthLetterMedia has worked with Straight Official Magazine to not only provide our readers with the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop, but to spotlight the developing Hip-Hop landscape of the Circle City. As the lead editor of TLM, I vested personal stock in our efforts and in 2018 I presented the State of the Hip-Hop Union address.

In the piece I spoke on several topics, from the pros and cons of the landscape of Hip-Hop in Nap to the undeniable talent that runs rampant here. In the year that would follow, while there were numerous artists that broke ground here, there were two that broke the glass ceiling that has encompassed the Circle City for decades.

Playbwoi tha Great and Trajik are revered as native legends in music and entertainment here in Indy. In my journey as a journalist I’ve worked with them both on separate occasions. Playbwoi would go on to sign with Lil’ Boosie’s Bad Azz Music label while Trajik would make his acting debut on the widely popular Fox series Empire. I viewed their respective wins as accomplishments for the city, but I also saw it as confirmation of what I’ve been saying for years.

Naptown as a collective and cohesive unit will become the next mecca for Hip-Hop and entertainment. The talent has always been here and the variety is in spades. We’re the only Midwest entity that hasn’t been crowned and I feel that those days are numbered. The entertainment realm is beginning to wake up to us as a region of both promise and prosperity. Granted, there are several underlying issues that have kept us back but at this point, we’ve already talked about them to death. It’s time to focus on becoming a standard in both Hip-Hop and the entertainment industry.

From top left: Circle City Hustle, Roj Mahal, Bart Litty, Dottie Staxx

Which brings me back to the Punk quote. I believe that every artist, DJ and producer from the Circle City should adopt this question as their mantra. Several artists have made it out of NAP to reach mainstream success, so why stop now? In 2018, TLM and SO Mag launched the #LetsWork campaign in the attempt to break out independent artists. Coupled with TLM’s other features such as #SaturdaySpotlight I have seen the impact that we can and will have on the industry. Plus I enjoy being right about things like this.

In the first year that TenthLetterMedia linked with Straight Official, Naptown made up maybe 3% of the content that was published in the magazine. Three years later, that percentage is closer to 70%…

DO WE HAVE EVERYONE’S ATTENTION NOW?!?!

I’m willing to bet we do. Stay tuned with us as we continue to bring you the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop! #DueSeason #GetSOM

What In The Figgity?! [W_Z_R_D]

Quarters2Commas and Straight Official are proud to present another up and coming local artist on the rise representing Indianapolis!

Despite his normal laidback demeanor, the stage explodes with energy with a performance from W_Z_R_D! (Wizard)

Victor Hutchison II adopted the name Wizard in middle school and later changed the spelling to W_Z_R_D. Given his ability to leave his fans mesmerized it’s safe to say the name fits. W_Z_R_D has been making music since the young age of 12 and has found influence from his late uncle Markus Steward (Stew), Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, XXXtencion, and ski Mask. He began to perform and record professionally two years ago and has hit the ground running.

W_Z_R_D released his first studio album, titled “Dreams to Reality” in December 2016. His follow up single “Jungle” was rewarded with blog appearances, local performances, and recognition within the Indianapolis music scene.

In early 2017, he released his first EP, “Play Me“. W_Z_R_D’s hard work and dedication to his craft has caused him to grow quickly as an artist. His May 2018 single “Right” has seen a lot of success via internet radio, bookings and blog postings.

Following the release, W_Z_R_D was a featured artist at The Green House Affect Open Mic in Indianapolis, the Sunspot Music Fest in Morristown, Indiana, Stonetree Studios in Indianapolis, the For The Fans Music Festival in Muncie, Indiana, the Mesa Music Festival in Arizona, and has opened for Rich the Kid & Jay Critch.

Currently, W_Z_R_D was named a finalist in the Hot 96.3 Santa Slam Opener Contest, where the winner opens for The Migos. He is also set to release his next projectLate” in Spring 2019 along with visuals for two singles from the project, “Day One” and “Old Days”.

W_Z_R_D is definitely an artist to look out for. His music may currently be found on SoundCloud, Spotify and Reverbnation and is soon to hit all major platforms.

Thank you and stay tuned in 2k19 as Straight Official and Quarters2Commas bring you the figgity right to your face about music, sports, gaming and more!

What In The Figgity?! [NBA MVP – Earned or Given?]

Now there is no doubt that the NBA is in hot water with all the boiling talent on the rise this year, not to mention the red hot vets who been snubbed for the last few seasons.

Now i know some viewers may disagree but Lebron James has to be the obvious choice right?

But with Anthony Davis, The Beard, Kyrie and The Greek Freak leading the way in the Player Efficiency catagory. How can Lebron win MVP so far down the list?

Can we speak facts though for a moment? As we all see, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the leagues worst team without The King and the Lakers (Top 10 worst teams last season) are sneaking in the backdoor of the Western Conference.

What else is MVP worthy from a player who has been snubbed the last 5 seasons after taking his teams to consecutive Finals?

This isn’t all about Lebron though. The question remains, Is the MVP Award earned or given? Are we going solely on stats? Or is it marketing? Of course they are great athletic superstars, but is there a list who gets it next unless something unanimous happens?

What are the factors that really makes a player the Most Valuable? Feel free to comment and let me know what you think about the MVP race. Who you think should win right now and why. I say Lebron, because of his ultimate and visible impact to the game and recent snubs; taking nothing from Westbrook or Harden.

Stay tuned as All-Star Weekend approaches. Be sure to go to http:/www.nba.com and vote for your favorite players to be entered into the weekend’s events.

Thank you and stay tuned in 2k19 as Straight Official and Quarters2Commas bring you the figgity right to your face about music, sports, gaming and more!
