[LA BODEGA] QUARANTINE TALK: Bags The Boss

WELCOME TO QUARANTINE TALK, WHERE WE’VE HELD VARIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTIST’S & GROUPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD VIA ZOOM, EMAIL, SOCIAL MEDIA EVEN PLAIN OLD PHONE CONVERSATIONS.

WELCOME TO THE 19TH EDITION OF QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS BAGS THE BOSS FROM QUEENS, NEW YORK.
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW.

Who Is Bags The Boss?

SOMag: What is your Name? Where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
BAGS THE BOSS: My name is Bags The Boss and I’m from Southside Jamaica Queens. What got me interested in music were my friends. They used to play rap music around me everyday. I liked it so much I ended up trying to imitate it. After that, I started writing about my own experiences.

SOMag: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
B. Anything can inspire me. I could be walking down the street, see a dope car and get inspired. I could trip and fall down while taking a walk. I’m inspired! (laughs). Literally anything.

SOMag: How would you describe your sound?
B. I would say my sound is more motivational and sharing person experiences.

SOMag: What is your creative process like?
B. All I need is a dope beat that I feel like writing to.  I go off of the vibe so that I’m not forcing anything. There are some days I might not have anything. Then some days I cant stop.

SOMag: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
B. Rick Ross, Jim Jones, and Drake.

SOMag: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
B. Keep supporting, I got a long way to go.

SOMag: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
B. I record all my records, I make all my artwork and I’ve edited some of my videos.

SOMag: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
B. Probably designing clothes and putting all my time into that.

I admire my father for his work ethic and foolish pride.  I admire anyone with the balls to go after what they want.

Bags The Boss

SOMag: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
B. Save your money. We end up spending money on the wrong things most of the time.

SOMag: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
B. I’d change streaming. What they don’t tell you is that streaming payouts are low which and why they vary from service to service.

SOMag: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself next year?
B. I would love to reach the next level of my career. Making moves and continuing to push forward.

SOMag: What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?
B.@Bagstheboss on everything 🙏🏽

DJ. Who and/or what inspires you to create?
Zumbi: We got inspired to write because it was a way to talk about our emotions. We were inspired by all that was happening around us.

DJ: How would you describe your sound?
Zumbi: Our sound is a combination of Electronica, Hip Hop & Downtempo. We listen to all types of music, which is the reason why our album is all over the place (laughs).

DJ: What is your creative process like?
Zumbi: Well either Jerry or Jason gives me beats to see if I am feeling any of them and I see what
is touching my soul. I pick out the ones I can write to then begin with the writing process, then Jerry start’s adding the guitar, bass and other instruments. Then I go to the studio to do the vocals and finish up the track, its pretty cool.

[La Bodega] Quarantine Talk: LUPE

Welcome to the New Installments of Quarantine Talk, where we’ve held various conversations with artist’s & groups from around the world via Zoom, Email, Social Media even plain old phone conversations.

We were previously on the 16th edition but due to cyber hacking by a group of web hackers, all of our published web content & website was removed and deleted permanently. But thanks to our amazing web server admin we are back in full swing! The artist we have today is LUPE from Athens Greece. You can check out our conversation down below.

WHO IS LUPE?

DJ GOJABEAN: What is your stage name? Tell me where you’re from and what first got you interested in
the entertainment industry?

LUPE: My name is Michalis Latousakis (Lupe), I’m from Athens, Greece and the main factor that got me into the music industry was my need for expression.

DJ: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
LUPE: My thoughts and feelings about life, humanity and every kind of love.

DJ: How would you describe your sound?
LUPE: The sound is based on dark alternative and art rock. The deep, theatrical and wide-
ranged vocals along with the confessional lyricism and the dark sound make up the
obvious characteristic of the Lupe project.

DJ: What is your creative process like?
LUPE: I just record a piano progression spontaneously which express my thoughts and feelings.
Accompany that with a vocal melody and I write all the other instruments. Then I finally add my vocals to finish it out.

DJ: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
LUPE: The music industry is more plastic, and unreal. This is because technology has advanced so much. This is a great development. Let’s combine it with more human touch!

DJ: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
LUPE: I am a breakdance dancer and a bridge player

DJ: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
LUPE: It is hard and a little painful to think that! Anything where I am able to express myself. I would go through a different type of art like dance or theatre.

I admire David Bowie for his multifaceted and diverse music career.

LUPE on which artist(s) he admires

IN CLOSING

DJ: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
LUPE: Always choose your partners & colleagues wisely.

DJ: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
LUPE: I believe that music and all forms of art have the role to give food for thought and provide
people with stimuli that has to do with self development. Today, the industry is just following trends instead of making a statement. Not really if at all and engaging with the fans. This needs to change.

DJ: What’s next for you and where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
LUPE: The next step for me is the promotion of the 2nd album Dark Room which has just
been released! The next year I would like to take part in big festivals and release my
next album.

[MOVIE REVIEW] HALLOWEEN KILLS

Anyone who’s a fan of movies like myself enjoys a good horror flick. So of course, we were all excited to hear that Halloween Kills dropped this past weekend. Ever since I was a kid, the Halloween franchise has always been one of my favorites. These films had the perfect amount of scare, blood & gore in my household!

HALLOWEEN KILLS (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Without giving away too much, I was excited to hear Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasance) one more time. The filmmakers did a awesome job working alongside a voice actor to faithfully recreate his voice. I also enjoyed how they explained how Michael did not die in the 2018 film. It made sense, which has been lacking in most horror films with Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees.

GOJABEAN’S TAKE ON HALLOWEEN KILLS

The rest of the movie for me was a letdown. The character Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was barely involved in the movie. I enjoyed the nods to previous films, but what they did with the old characters was disappointing. I spent the past 40 years not hearing or seeing who & what they have become. Now I’m supposed to feel bad for them because they get killed a few minutes into the film?

I was never a fan of the character Karen (Judy Greer) and was pleased when she was killed off. There was a chase scene where they all chase down the wrong man. I felt bad for him, but personally I thought the scene was pointless. There was a line in the film that went “He’s turned us into monsters.” No, he did not. He gave you the reason that you had been seeking to show that you have always been monsters inside.

Mind you, a man was dressed in white, unmasked, shorter and chubbier actually speaks. Not one person in the mob had presence of mind to say, “Well, it looks like someone else?” Everyone except for Karen, I suppose. I could say that the movie falls apart at the end but, it fell apart way earlier than that. The movie isn’t a total bomb. The actor who portrayed Michael (James Jude Courtney) did a great job.

IN CLOSING

Michael’s outfit still has it’s authenticity. Especially his mask that’s been ravaged by all of his previous battles. Much like Jason Voorhees in the past, we catch a glimpse of his damaged eye.. That was a nice, gory touch. The musical score was done by John Carpenter and it was well done. You will have to see it and decide for yourselves, if you enjoy this sort of thing.

William Shatner Goes To Outer Space

Hollywood’s Captain Kirk, 90-year-old WILLIAM SHATNER, blasted into space Wednesday in a convergence of science fiction and science reality, reaching the final frontier aboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company.

The Star Trek actor and three fellow passengers hurtled to an altitude of 66.5 miles (107 kilometers) over the West Texas desert in the fully automated capsule then safely parachuted back to Earth. The flight lasted just over 10 minutes.

“What you have given me is the most profound experience,” an exhilarated Shatner told Bezos after climbing out the hatch. The words spilling from him in a soliloquy almost as long as the flight. “I hope I never recover from this, I hope that I can maintain what I feel now, I don’t want to lose it.”

What you have given me is the most profound experience. I hope I never recover from this.

Shatner on his experience going into space.

He said that going from the blue sky to the utter blackness of space was moving. “In an instant you go, ‘Whoa, that’s death.’ That’s what I saw.”

Shatner became the oldest person in space. He eclipsed the previous record set by a passenger on a similar jaunt on a Bezos spaceship by eight years. The flight included about three minutes of weightlessness and a view of the curvature of the Earth.

“The love we’ve received with the NEW RORY & MAL podcast has been incredible,” said MAL. “We look forward to changing the optics of ‘media culture’ and having fun with the content we create with SirusXM and STITCHER. Just know that we’re here and that my karma is still beautiful.”

“I’ve listened to some of my favorite people on SirusXM for years,” said FARRELL. “We’re honored to join the STITCHER family and are excited to have their support in creating the content we’ve wanted to create in a much cooler way. They’ve been instrumental in pushing the podcast genre further, and we look forward to growing with them.”

Prosecutors Rest Their Case Against R. Kelly After Weeks Of Testimony

#GetSOM via @djgojabean

(Photo Cred: AP News)

Federal prosecutors have rested their case against R. KELLY following 19 days of allegations of sexual abuse and testimony from more than 40 witnesses about how the singer allegedly controlled the minute details of his accusers’ everyday lives. According to YAHOO! NEWS, since opening statements on AUGUST 18th, prosecutors have presented accusers, former employees and other witnesses who testified in BROOKLYN’s federal courthouse about how KELLY controlled the lives of his young “girlfriends,” who often lived with him.

The accusers, whose experiences with KELLY spanned the course of about 25 years until his JULY 2019 arrest, described how the singer pressured them into sex. One woman said KELLY sexually assaulted her just moments after meeting her backstage after a concert. Others described being “trained” in sex and living with the singer over the course of several years. KELLY also gave several of them herpes, they testified, without disclosing that he had the incurable disease.

KELLY has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. His defense attorneys are expected to begin presenting their own witnesses for about two days, before each team of lawyers presents their closing arguments.

As the trial heads toward its conclusion, the singer faces legal risk elsewhere. Federal and state-level prosecutors in CHICAGO each have pending cases against KELLY involving similar allegations, as does a district attorney’s office in MINNESOTA.
