[NEWS] PHARRELL PRODUCED BIOPIC OF ROXANNE SHANTE SET TO DEBUT AT SUNDANCE
We’ve seen numerous biopics in the last year, but what can be better than one about rapper Roxanne Shante? This one will be screening at Sundance documenting 14-year-old Shante’s rise to fame during the 80’s. The cast includes Chanté Adams, Mahershala Ali, Nia Long, Elvis Nolasco, Kevin Phillips, and Shenell Edmonds.
The female phenom gained her fame by writing a response to UTFO’s hit, “Roxanne Roxanne.”
The ‘she-spitta’ named her song “Roxanne’s Revenge” produced by Marley Marl, and blasted her viewpoint of the woman being pursued in the song, starting what is known as the “Roxanne Wars,” where another female rapper called The Real Roxanne dissed Shante.
Most notably, the famed Queensbridge emcee dissed KRS-One with this infamous line, “Now KRS-ONE, you should go on vacation / With that name sounding like a wack radio station.” Shanté released two albums on Cold Chillin Records before leaving the rap game to pursue her college education.
