The current state of affairs in Hip-Hop you could say is quite strange right now. Beefs aren’t the same anymore and social media responses come quicker than album releases. A wise man once told me that one of the elements of Hip-Hop is in need of help. Fortunate for us there are artists that preserve what Hip-Hop embodies.

On a rainy then sunny Saturday afternoon in the Circle City, droves of people wrapped around the Old National Center. Strange weather complemented the TECH N9NE Strictly Strange Tour 2017 presented by Holy Toledo Productions would fill the Egyptian Room to capacity.

The legendary MC would make his 10th annual appearance in Naptown on a tour that has years of strange music that Hip-Hop heads crave.

Once the show officially sold out, the strangeness would then commence with performances from Ces Cru and Stevie Stone as well as a special performance from Matthew “M-Eighty Markoff alongside Bulletproof. If the man can bring this much strange but good music to Naptown, then why not take part in it?

One of the many highlights of the night for me was seeing Brotha Lynch Hung perform live. The past few times I’ve heard anything about BLH it wasn’t in a positive light but to see him back in his element was so dope!! The new material is still sick made and he even went back in time for some of his classics. Can’t front that I was mad I didn’t hear my favorite line from the track that put me on to him (On my briefcase was some crumpled weed…).

The room was returning from a brief intermission before a countdown appeared on the screens on stage. Three minutes before the strangest part of the night took place. As the timer ran to zero, darkness then an explosion of light and bass as TECH N9NE took center stage. The stage was flanked by two screens that at first appeared to be holograms at first glance.

One screen had TECH surrounded by fire and the other had him in a Roman empire setting draped in white. The remarkable thing was that his every movement, gesture and reaction was being captured on those screens!! Check out the video below as this was truly something I have never seen at a live show!!

Krizz Kaliko would then bless us with his appearance and further through the crowd into a frenzy. The two MC’s would continue to rock the crowd for two hours, with TECH ripping off several of his gems from his GOLD Collection including “Fragile” with Kendrick Lamar and “Speedom” featuring Twista.

As Krizz joined him onstage for another song, TECH acknowledged the room for a crowd selfie via Instagram, the fact that it was hot than a MF up in the Egyptian Room and that they were up there for well over two hours. But as a true MC feeding off the love of the crowd, his only response was to say “Fuck it, let’s keep the party going!!”

Be on the lookout for the Strictly Strange Tour 2017 to make a stop in your city. Tickets are available through LiveNation and more info is at
