Kai Cogs talks the progress of the Young Atlas brand with Jason Bourne
A platform for creatives based in Harlem, New York City the Young Atlas founder Kai Cogsville has always had a passion for music and business. Seeing that there was a void to be filled, Young Atlas was built on the premise of delivering original content highlighting talented individuals. The brand’s goal is to market movers and shakers on a global scale. To date the resume includes a series of miniature documentaries on creatives such as the legendary Steve Lobel, Slim Dollars, Buck Bundles, Cleverly Chloe, B.Morgan, TRAX NYC, and More. Check out out exclusive sit down below:
Jason Bourne: If you will, please get into the meaning behind the name Young Atlas:
Young Atlas: The name Young Atlas is simple – we aim to create fresh original content on a global scale with an innovative (Young) twist.
Jason Bourne: At what point in your journey did you know your calling was media and wanting to create a platform for other aspiring creatives
Young Atlas: Through the course of producing events and booking artists I realized there was a lack of coverage on independent creatives. Instead of waiting for a platform to get started I took my fate into my own hands. I have always respected the art of interviewing and looked up to great interviewers like Charlie Rose, Oprah Winfrey and Bryant Gumbel. The Young Atlas team has been working to introduce emerging and established creatives to the market.
Jason Bourne: Your mission statement speaks to the void that you saw in the landscape – what was that void exactly ?
Young Atlas: The void we saw was a lack of informative content on creatives and people behind the scenes. We set our sights on talking with the influencer who does not receive enough coverage or is given enough credit. We want people to hear their stories. Young Atlas aims to add value to the market. People can watch an entertaining interview as well as learn from a wide variety of talented guests.
Jason Bourne: You have taken your craft to the next level from journalist to actual creating content – you have a couple of mini docs you have shot can you speak on that ?
Young Atlas: Young Atlas strives to stand out by covering a lot of information in a short period of time. Our mini documentaries aims to capture the different vibes of our city (NYC) from a fashion and music point of view. As Jay from Vinnie’s Styles says it best, “Fashion and music are married.” We deliver that vibe through a unique visual perspective.
Jason Bourne: Your work is not only housed in your hometown, you have made your rounds. How has the New England market been for you ?
Young Atlas: You have done your homework! New England was cool but honestly just too segregated for a New Yorker like myself. When I am in New York I am used to walking down a block and seeing people from different ethnic backgrounds. It really made me realize why I love New York so much. We were surprised by the Hip-Hop scene out there. Tons of talent! The team will be doing a part 2 very soon.
Jason Bourne: Your recent interviews have been quality. You had the legend Steve Lobel on for a sit down – how did that come together ?
Young Atlas: What an honor that was! I met Steve, or should I say Mr. Lobel at a concert we produced. As a student of the game I knew who he was and had the pleasure of walking him to a VIP table. We exchanged information and I gave him a call a few days later to introduce myself. During the conversation I asked if he would come in for an interview. As they say, “Winners Win”, he showed up right on time, and shared some extremely valuable knowledge. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Mr. Lobel. I knew we were going to get along when he talked about my favorite documentary “His Way”, about the late legendary showman Jerry Weintraub.
Jason Bourne: Who are some other notables that the brand has featured in recent months ?
Young Atlas: Young Atlas has had the pleasure of featuring some incredible artists. Vinnies Styles comes to mind because they took a chance on us when we were just starting out. The owners have showed continuous support and we are looking forward to following up that content with a part 2.
Jason Bourne: What does the rest of 2019 look like for your brand – Young Atlas ?
Young Atlas: It looks busy!! A lot of amazing interviews coming and we are looking to expand our team. I spoke to Mr. Trump about sitting down to do an exclusive, he said he’s really interested. Big things to come!
