What is your Name? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry? Oneluv Mahugu, Philadelphia p.a, I was always into theatre and art ever since elementary school and the passion progressed as i got older.
Who and/or what inspires you to create? I believe I caught inspiration from a combination of artists growing up, from Michael Jackson to Brian McKnight , Babyface , Barrington Levy Levy, Super Cat and many more, I absorbed them all like a sponge…I fell in love with performers. I decided to do something productive with my artistic ability and time so I decided to do something musical. It felt good, it felt like heaven.
How would you describe your sound? My sound is ethnic , my sound evokes rhythm and dance, my sound is versatile
What is your creative process like? My creative process derives from life and what I am feeling at the time, that is why my songs vary in subject matter. So I put my feelings on paper. I normally acquire original beats, select one that I like and literally write to it, write about a subject matter in a poetic way, I believe songs are poetry. In my youth I would always write poetry so as I got older they turned into songs.
What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with? I am very versatile and can generally make a hit with anybody but if I was to pick a few I would say Ryan Leslie, 50cent, Jay -z, Sean Paul, Super Cat, Barrington Levy, Eminem , Drake , Nas, Jon B , Keyshia Cole for starters .
What is one message you would give to your supporters? Gratuity seems to have a ripples effect on people and improves lives so in short I am grateful to every individual who has supported me via social media or randomly turned up and purchased tickets to my shows or downloaded my songs online, you individuals not only validate my creative process but inspire me to continue improving and striving to do more…thank you! The best has yet to come I promise.
What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about? That no one knows about me? I play piano by ear, I am a film producer , extremely athletic and I am a great writer.
What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music? I would be an owner of a gym or art studio.
Who are some artists/people you admire and why? Ryan Leslie and Kenny Babyface Edmonds. Why because they are extremely talented and versatile .
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
A friend of mine who passed once told me that
“ Second by second you lose the opportunity to become the person that you want to become” that statement has been embedded in my mind for years and I’ll live and die with it. It was the best advise I’ve ever received…to strive for your purpose without wasting a single minute, to own your dreams.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be? I would make major labels give full writes and masters of music to the artist
What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year? In the next year I will be booked out for shows nationwide, collaborated with numerous artists, steady promotional features and a lot more music and visual work released, endless action.
