Straight Official Sits Down With Young Yé

  1. What is your Name? Young Yé. I’m from the west side of queens Long Island city. Astoria to be exact.
  2. Who and/or what inspires you to create? Honestly my love for music inspires me to create it more than anyone or anything. The way it has the ability to change my mood. Make me reflect on a certain period in my life. Hints like that truly inspire me.
  3. How would you describe your sound? My sound has a vast range. There’s literally no type of music I won’t try and make so it varies. I have music that’s more on the side of r and b. Then I have music that’s more so drill. Then I have records that reflect the real hip hop soul. So I couldn’t exactly pinpoint a sound that I could give what I create.
  4. What is your creative process like? My creative process is rather simple honestly. It’s like mood oriented. Some days I’ll
Be feeling drill other days I’m more inclined to lyricism. I may have an emotional day where I feel like singing. After I determine my mood it’s pretty much go time from that point on. The best is playing and I’m basically free styling til I get the right feel for a track. Once I get that I’ll more likely than not be done with it in the next 20 minutes.
  5. What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with? I’d love to collaborate with the greats. Such as nas jay z lil Wayne just so I can see what it’s like to have a lyrical bout with them. So I can kind of stamp my place in the game as far as lyricism goes. Then I’ve got artists that I’d love to turn up and make music with. Such as li baby, gunna, drake, that’s just to name a few. There’s plenty more though.
  6. What is one message you would give to your supporters? To my supporters I’d like to say thank you. You’ve been with me since the beginning and the road has been a long and bumpy one. I promise that the destination will be worth the journey.
  7. What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about? A talent that people don’t know about is probably how good I am at football. When I used to play I was a wide receiver/ running back. Football was my first love before music.
  8. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music? It’s honestly hard to say because I can’t imagine myself not doing music. However if I wasn’t I’d probably be heavy into fashion. I’ve always been into designing things like sneakers and clothing.
  9. Who are some artists/people you admire and why? I can’t narrow it down because there are so many artists that I do admire in the game. I can say though that I look up to the ones who have truly made it about more than music. Those who have given us great music and used that platform Ronaldo provide us with great fashion. Provide us with a voice for social justice issues. Ventured into other business areas and gotten artists a seat at a table where they weren’t always invited to.
  10. What is the best advice you’ve been given? The best advice I’ve been given is to not try and put a time stamp on your success but isn’t for you to say when things will happen. They will take place when the universe sees the time fit.
  11. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be? if I could change anything about the industry I would want for labels to be more behind artists being creative than commercial. What they have to realize is that the consumers actually make the market so commercial is only what we feed into. That means commercial could honestly sound like anything with the right driving force behind it. I just wish artists could be left with creative control and freedom.
  12. What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year? in the next year I see myself growing my fan base. Becoming a household name. Touring and doing plenty of shows.
  13. What is your social media? You can find me on Instagram @2dt_ye
