THE FUNK DOC IS BACK
REDMAN, the iconic New Jersey rapper, is finally gearing up to release Muddy Waters 2, the long-awaited sequel to his classic 1996 album Muddy Waters.
This upcoming album has been in development for several years. Red has been hinting at its progress as early as 2011. Fans have eagerly awaited new music since his last project (3 Joints) in 2020. Now, after years of anticipation and teasers, Muddy Waters 2 is on the horizon.
Redman kept the excitement alive by dropping singles and music videos that give a taste of what to expect from the new album.
For instance, the track “So Cool,” which features his signature humor and raw lyricism, was released alongside a visual that showcases scenes from Atlantic City, paying homage to the gritty and nostalgic feel of Muddy Waters. His recent single “80 Barz” also delivered a freestyle filled with witty bars, further building hype for the sequel.
REDMAN- MUDDY WATERS TOO
The album is expected to balance Redman’s signature playful style and raw energy with more modern production. Longtime collaborator Eric Sermon (Def Squad) is involved in the production, ensuring that the project retains the classic vibe while bringing something fresh for all fans.
The collaboration with RIV Music, which has worked with big names like Chris Brown and DJ Khaled, marks a significant step in Redman’s career. The endgame being to deliver a high-quality project that meets the expectations set by its predecessor.
Redman’s announcement came just before his highly publicized Verzuz battle with Method Man in April 2021. This would reignite his interest in his music. As Hip-Hop continues to evolve, Muddy Waters 2 aims to bridge the gap between the ’90s and today’s scene, reminding listeners why Redman remains a respected figure in the game. The album promises to cater to those nostalgic for the golden era while reaching out to a new generation of Hip-Hop enthusiasts.
EDITOR’S TAKE
Redman finally releasing a sequel to Muddy Waters is what Hip-Hop needs. While I’m not particularly a fan of sequels in some cases, this is the exception. I was introduced to him in high school and was blown away back then as a fan. His catalog is full of gritty, raw punchlines and bars that were perfectly captured on that first project.
They’ll be no sophomore jinx around Muddy Waters Too to worry about. Redman is an established veteran in Hip-Hop that never fails to wreck shop. Even though there’s no official release date, I can wait a little bit longer for this follow up.
You have to understand that I’m a self-contained artist. That means I engineer everything right here in my house that I’m talking from. I engineer, I write the music and I mix in my house.
