ABUSE IS ABUSE & LOVE SHOULDN’T HURT YOU TO DEATH

Hi my beautiful faces and happy Monday! It’s October so let’s discuss something very important, which is domestic violence. This subject is dear to me. I encourage you all to remember LOVE SHOULDN’T HURT YOU TO DEATH. For most of us, at some point in our lives we have witnessed abuse. Whether it was mental, physical, emotional or verbal. The way we were raised you probably didn’t think of it as a problem. In certain homes it’s a family rule to practice the saying “What goes on in this house stays in this house.” If only our ancestors knew how much pain that statement would cause.

FACTS ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The statics are alarming. According to https://ncadv.org/statistics “On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.” That means by the time you finish this article at least 60 people will experience abuse. The numbers are hard to process, but it’s our reality.

1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

THERE IS HOPE

With the numbers being as scary as they are, there is hope and prevention. Due to training, technical advancements and awareness more people are becoming SURVIVORS of domestic violence. It’s so important we continue to bring light to this situation because there are so many affected by it. I am so happy that more victims are willing to share their stories and experiences. That alone gave others the motivation they needed to get out.

When the silence isn’t quiet
And it feels like it’s getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we’ll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
