SO. What are your Names ?
Where are you from and what first got you interested in the entertainment
industry ?
GF. At vocals is Berzamanis Nicolas, guitars Zao Lefteris, bass George Chaikas and our drummer is Jim
Lucas. We are all from Greece except Zao who is from Cyprus.
The good thing about us all is that we share the same interests in entertainment industry. We all have a
huge passion for music and we are people without whom we can not live. But what perhaps sets us apart
from a wide range of bands and musicians is perhaps the fact that in our minds our vision for what we
want to do in this space is clear. From the beginning we had a clear vision for the creation of the shape
and what we want and seek to achieve.

SO. Who and / or what inspires you to create ?
GF. We have been inspired from time to time by artists of international recognition, but of course also from
situations that concern either domestic or international issues and humanity in general or even the
environment, the universe and how it works. The sources of inspiration are endless and never specific and
can range from the smallest to the largest. From joy, from tragedies, from anger, from indignation, from
spiritual awakening, from sources of knowledge, from historical events and generally from various issues
that may touch us.

SO. How would you describe your sound ?
GF. Our sound can be characterized as Psychedelic Heavy Stoner Rock from most people with many other
influences from the rock scene in it that come and go from track to track.

SO. What is your creative process like ?
GF. In this we dο not follow specific paths and methods or rituals. We are liberated from all this , first of all to
express ourselves and to bring to the surface the authenticity that springs from within us. If this does not
happen, it is not possible for us to proceed with any creation and we generally don’t like that there are
various artists that do so for the sake of fame and money. We do not belong to this portion of people. We
are free in the way we move musically having of course found the bases on which we always step to
create but that does not mean that we limit ourselves. When something good comes out we just bring it to
the measure of the band’s identity. Sometimes a melody emerges and sometimes the lyrics first. And the
opposite. But it all always starts when one of us has something essential to say and bring to the surface.
There is all the substance and as soon as this arises we all work on this material to sculpt it and bring it to
the level it deserves.

SO. What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with ?
GF. As from our country we would love to collaborate with artists like Planet of Zeus, 1000Mods, Vic,
Narcosis, Dendrites. As from abroad we would like to collaborate with bands like Kyuss, My Sleeping
Karma, Truck Fighters, Clutch, Godsmack and Trully many many others!

SO. What is one message you would give to your supporters ?
GF. We always carried the message of unity and brotherhood. Respect for the diversity of the individual. We
have stood against racism and fascism and at every opportunity we fight to overthrow such ideologies and
perceptions and we urge everyone to strive for the same goals. Against all forms of violence, whether
verbal or physical.

SO. What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about ?
GF. It would be very easy to start telling you what we are good at and what our talents are. But we are not
people who like to talk and brag. We will share something else instead of some talent. We will share the
meaning of consciousness and empathy as these are two of the most necessary qualities that a person must
learn to use in order to change his destructiveness, his hostile attitude towards others and the planet. In a
human society as divided and confused as the one we are experiencing, each of us needs to know who he
is, where he stands and what he is doing to improve things.

SO. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music ?
GF. Probably we were professionally involved in sports as we love them and believe that it is necessary in
shaping the character of a person but also necessary for his mental and physical health and why not do it
if there is opportunities to make money from it.

SO. Who are some artists/people you admire and why ?
GF. The following artists are key points in our lives as they were in a way a support for us during the
transition from childhood to adulthood due to poor living conditions and many difficult situations that we
experienced growing up. As we have said before, we were never children of the rich, we grew up in slums
with few goods and we wandered the streets all day. We have seen and experienced the pain, the
poverty, the violence and the financial difficulties, the tense conditions in our families and music has
always been a support and a way out for us…
So here are some of most favorite : Red Hot Chili Peppers , Nirvana , Guns n Roses, Metallica, Tool ,
Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Godsmack, Parkway Drive, Pink Floyd and many others.

SO. What is the best advice you‘ve been given ?
GF. To “ Be Water ”. Not to be trapped in a certain mindset. To be able to adapt to certain situations , to grow
and to change. It’s about not being rigid and stubborn about your beliefs, practices, understanding, and
instead, about being open-minded and able to change and adapt to the circumstances we are put into.

SO. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be ?
GF. Oh we would love to see labels that understand our situations and what we’ve been through. After all, this
is the main reason why we can not collaborate until today with any company to publish our music and we
continue as independent record artists.

SO. What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year ?
GF. We dream of the moment when we will go on stage more often to appear live and get close to the world.
We have missed him and surely this will be a priority for us when things go better with our covid 19 in
our country. The situation remains difficult for both the bands and the festival organizers. To understand
better, we have not yet been able to close a series of appearances aimed at promoting our new Lp album
Empty Nest which seems to be going very well online but we are definitely thirsty to play our new music
live!

WELCOME TO THE 24th EDITION OF La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS KATRE
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW

SO. What are your Names? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
K. Hello and thanks for having us.
My name is Hasan, I am the guitar player of the instrumental rock band Katre.
Together with Şah Cihan (Synth),
Okaner (Drums), and
Özgür (Bass),
Katre has been around for seven years now.
The band is based in Berlin. Half of the band members live in Turkey and the other half in
Germany.

SO. Who and/or what inspires you to create?
K. Hasan: There are certain things I cannot understand. Do you know the song “Learning to
Live” by Dream Theater? There it says “I look at the world and see no understanding”. That
is, I guess, my motivation to create and how I protest against it.

SO. How would you describe your sound?
K. Hasan: Layered, heavy, sometimes optimistic, and sometimes pessimistic.

SO. What is your creative process like?
K. Hasan: Usually, I write the songs and the stories, play the guitars, and maybe add some midi
arrangements. Each band member extends and enriches the material by recording their
parts and giving constant feedback to the others. Besides being talented musicians, we are
talking about very good music listeners in Katre, so it is hard to convince them. We iterate
until everybody feels good with the result. Hence, when we are happy with the final
product, I know we did a good job 🙂

SO. What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
K. Hasan: My choice would be Daniel Gildenlöw of Pain of Salvation.

SO. What is one message you would give to your supporters?
K. Hasan: First of all, thanks for supporting us, we appreciate it. If I may, I would like to add the
following: When listening to our songs, read the stories we created for each of them.
Empathize and feel with the protagonists. This will most probably give you a different
listening experience.

SO. What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
K. Hasan: Cool question 🙂 I do not know. I have some scientific publications. Haha, not quite
sure, does that count as a skill?

SO. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
K. Hasan: Probably reading a book or watching a movie

SO. Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
K. Hasan: Artist-wise Erkan Oğur, a great musician and personality from Turkey, is a huge
influence. He values silence in music. This inspired me a lot. By the way, he contributed to
the opening track of Encounters with his magical guitar solo. Also Daniel Gildenlöw. He is a
modern-day philosopher, a great musician, and has a sincere personality.
Apart from this, I admire Selahattin Demirtaş, because apart from his contributions to
democracy in Turkey, he has written incredible stories. Another important personality for
me is Ömer Madra, the editor-in-chief of an award-winning independent radio from Turkey,
Açık Radyo. I admire his perseverance and value his contributions towards creating
awareness on global warming and climate change, long before it came to the attention of
the mainstream media.

“You do not have to love one, but respect one”.

Hasan: when asked “What is the best advice you’ve been given”?

SO. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
K. Hasan: The way how Spotify allocates the royalties (and treated artists). I would change it
such that only the artists I listen to receive the royalties – not any other popular band which
already has 3 million followers.

SO. What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
K. Hasan: We are working on some visual materials and at the same time contacting promoters
for playing live. Due to the pandemic, it is hard to find appropriate slots. So I will not be
disappointed if we are not booked. But concerning the visual materials, I think we will have
one or two video clips in the next few months.

SO. What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?
K. Hasan: I guess checking our web page www.katremusic.com is the best way to get in touch
as you can find social media information there as well. Thanks a lot for having us. We enjoyed
the questions. Wish you all the best!
