Heavy Hitta Thursday : Illy Octane

From the back roads of Indiana emerged hip-hop up and comer Illy Octane.

In addition to his two solo albums, Humble vs Arrogance and I’ont Live Like Ya’ll, Illy has produced nine projects, including 2020 release 4 Eva Rich Vol.1 , under his label Rich Harvest Entertainment.

Often compared to 90’s label No Limit, RHE is making a lot of noise and has, understandably, started to catch the industry’s attention.  Looking to drop at least four more debut projects before the end of the year RHE will  be taking over your sound waves in no time.

While Illy is in full CEO and Executive Producer mode, I would bet money he will be blessing us with a new project in the new year.

Make sure ya’ll go check out the links below because he has hits for days!

As always remember where you heard it first and be sure to check back for my next pick for Heavy Hitta Thursday.

[Celebrity News] J.Cole Vs No Name

The newest hip-hop ‘beef’ to fire up the internet is not a common one, but when you peel back the layers it is clearly a case of the Aw Yeahs.

J.Cole dropped his first 2020 single Snow on the Bluff June 16th and sparked a flame.

In listening to the song with no pretense it is clearly a reaction to a female who is not named, but who would definitely know who inspired this single

She mad at these crackers, she mad at these capitalists, mad at these murder police
She mad at my n*****, she mad at our ignorance, she wear her heart on her sleeve
She mad at the celebrities, lowkey I be thinkin’ she talkin’ ’bout me

The last line of this bar is where the Aw Yeah theory comes into play. We have all heard a general statement and have taken it personally, but not all of us have a platform to clap back.

After a brief description of the female that inspired this piece, he acknowledges that this females heart is truly in the right place but her intentions are getting lost in her aggressive approach.

A perspective and awareness of the system and unfairness that afflicts ’em
And the clearest understandin’ of what we gotta do to get free
And the frustration that fills her words seems to come from the fact that most people don’t see
Just ’cause you woke and I’m not, that shit ain’t no reason to talk like you better than me
How you gon’ lead? When you attackin’ the very same n***** that really do need the shit that you sayin’?Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed

The rest of the single gives what some could call an explanation of why he has not spoke out on the systematic racism and prejudice that is flooding the African American and LGBQT community.

Thinkin’ just maybe, in my pursuit to make life so much better for me and my babies
I done betrayed the very same people that look at me like I’m some kind of a hero
Because of the zeros that’s next to the commas
But look here, I promise I’m not who you think
Ran into this n**** outside of the store yesterday
He said something that had me like, “Wait”
He was like “Cole, ‘preciate what you been doin’, my n****, that’s real”
But damn, why I feel faker than Snow on Tha Bluff?
Well maybe ’cause deep down I know I ain’t doing enough

It is not until an artist who refers to herself as No Name released her single 33 on June 18th, that the audience could connect the dots.

I guess the ego hurt now
It’s time to go to work, wow, look at him go
He really ’bout to write about me when the world is in smokes?
When it’s people in trees?
When George was beggin’ for his mother, saying he couldn’t breathe
You thought to write about me?

Now it should be clear, but just in case it was missed , J.Cole’s whole song was No Names Aw Yeah moment.

While the original tweets are no longer on No Names twitter account, the posts from June 3rd is captured on YouTube show Day Time Tea Time. The tweets compare black male celebrities who are not using their platforms to speak out against the abuse of trans women to white supremacists.

After taking in the information available, No Name picked a fight she is not equipped to handle. In using her platform to call out other’s for not taking a stance her intentions are lost in their new trendy beef. Instead of directing focus on the issues at hand we are now focused on J.Cole and if he should be our next “cancelled” celebrity.
