Shif-T Da Nightchild Shares The Story Of Her Journey

shif-t da nightchild

We recently caught up with D.C native Shif-T Da Nightchild to talk about his latest single as well as getting a chance to know the DMV rapper & her journey through the rap game. Check out our one-on-one down below.

Q&A WITH SHIF-T DA NIGHTCHILD

DJ SPINS: How Did You Come Up With your Stage Name?

Well I was actually given the name Shif-T after collaborating on various music projects & performing with live bands. I’ve always real creative and versatile allowing me to be able to tap into different genres and markets. My names comes from being able to switch up my style and shift gears musically at any given moment.

The name “Da NightChild” came along from my Mom RIP because I’ve been an insomniac since birth. I would always be up at night and like to sleep in the day time like a vampire. I always wanted to carry a piece of my mom with me so I added Da NightChild onto the name Shif-T.

Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I’ve been surrounded by music my whole life, but after doing various studio work and performing on stage with  live bands I just found an forever love for music.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

What inspires me the most is that I’m able to express myself unfiltered and I can give the world me authentically never mind the judgements or prejudices. Everyday we face something different so, I like to pull from experiences and create something beautiful. Life is a big puzzle so we all have the power to create the masterpiece our hearts desire. I’ve created some of my best work going through the struggle and music has been my biggest therapy.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

I like to call my sound Urban Goth because it’s a mixture of hip-hop, trap and rock.

What is your creative process like?

I’m an introverted extrovert so I prefer creating late nights alone in my own space of comfort. For the most, I can be found listening to instrumental music with my headphones on and just zoning out, and allowing my creative juices to go wild. Despite comfortability though, I’m very adaptive like a chameleon and always open to new surroundings and creating magic with others.

shif-t da nightchild

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with the greats like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Sade, Mary J Blige,  Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Linkin park.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would love to open up for Linkin Park or Lil Wayne.

RAPID FIRE ROUND

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

My biggest message, I would give to my supporters is that all things are possible through God & that we are the true controllers of our destiny. Feel free to change, switch directions, or adjust as many times as needed, because at the end of the day we all are entitled to peace and happiness and to walk in our own purpose and truth.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I don’t believe in any talent being useless. A talent is a gift and a real blessing for anyone to possess for real.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

If I wasn’t doing music, I would honestly study psychology and become a therapist. I love helping and uplifting others, and finding easier ways to navigate through life. It’s about living a fulfilling life and in abundance, and I truly want peace, unconditional love and happiness for the entire species.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

I admire 50 Cent because he’s not just an amazing artist with hits, but he’s an entertainer and a smart businessman and that’s what it takes to survive in this industry. The music business is about way more than music and you have to learn it if you want to become successful and have longevity in the game.

shif-t da nightchild

I would also, have to say I admire Lil Wayne because he is limitless stylistically and crosses barriers most are afraid to tap into. As an artist you have to evolve with the time and be creative enough to make a lifelong impact and he has done that ten times over.

IN CLOSING

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I was given was to learn the music business and not just my artistry.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

If I could change anything in the industry it would be the direction of female hip-hop. I would like to see us project more lyrical diversity. We are not all the same and have different visions and perspectives, so it would be great if we could have a safe space and a new lane to present that.

shif-t da nightchild

You Dropped Your Latest Release Earlier this Year. Tell Us About It.

I have my new single out it’s called “The Journey” and it’s giving you a sneak peek into my world of ups and downs as I continue on my road to success. I feel we all face our own share of struggles and sacrifice, so I wanted to present something everyone can definitely relate to.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

In the next year, I want to drop more heart felt music for you to feel, set tours across the US & international, and make my brand (Phade 2 Green Productionz) a household name in the industry.

What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

Journalist Bae Presents MODEL BAE @originalmsbae

Missouri Fleet Model Manager and our beloved covergirl, Kayla Bae aka Model Bae steps up to let us know a little something about her. For your information, she didn’t hold back. So, let’s get into who exactly this phenomenal woman turns out to be!

I’m genuine person with pure intentions… No scams. No Fraud. Just REAL & RAW!

@originalmsbae

MODEL (BAE) BEGINNINGS

Kayla joined the modeling scene in approximately 2020 being in modeling/acting school. Since then – it has been up, as they say. Back then it was one model division for every Fleet DJ state represented. While she didn’t take it seriously at first, there was a “divine intervention” that told her to just go for it! For a while, it seemed like the model coalition had ghosted her and she had no place to turn. However, shoutout to Jo Marie for the “motivation to just start recruiting”. This is a prime example of “you can’t beat them, join ’em”. She ran the idea by MO Fleet leaders & they were fully on board! They had her back through it all from the flyers to the recruitment process being so supportive & helpful! Ms. Bae expresses her gratitude to the team and ultimately to herself for not giving up on that journey.

THE RE-GLOW UP

Since joining the Fleet team Model Bae has gained much more exposure and well-deserved confidence learning how to do interviews and also conduct them. She even had her own radio show for a while, that was a major opportunity for Model Bae. It allowed astronomical growth, not just as a model but also as a woman. According to her, Fleet not only changed her career but it changed her entire life. They allegedly believed in her when she didn’t/couldn’t believe in herself. The family aspect is the most important thing to Kayla. So it’s a blessing to be able to literally call one of the fleet brothers for anything fleet (or not) and they will be there.

I always say I’m taking Fleet with me wherever I go, this was my foundation and the start of everything for me! They literally have always treated me like a superstar. The love is so real.

@originalmsbae

MODEL MISSION

Model Bae’s mission is to continue to build up her modeling team and do as much as she possibly can within fleet. Though pausing on recruiting for now to fully focus on the two models she has, she strives to get more exposure, start doing events, raffles, photoshoots etc. for her team. Kayla makes it clear that she strives to be the best at everything she does & puts all into everything her name is on or behind. She states she would like to work with some celebrity photographers such as Blake Martin whom she met at a model conference in 2023. The model also want to work with big artists one day writing music for them. Writing is also a passion of hers outside of modeling. With that being said check out her debut single as a songwriter called 24 hours by Airrisa Reneè produced by MO fleet producer Eugene aka EMP records. The song is now out on multiple platforms!

GAME OVER?

So is this the end of the Model Bae era? She says it took a while to realize what modeling was for her but once she did -nothing or nobody could tell her otherwise. So, the answer is NO! NEVER! Before she started she didn’t know what to do with life. Feeling as if she wasn’t good at anything and didn’t have a purpose. Every one wanted to push sports on our good sis because of her height (i.e. Angel Reese), but knew that she hated playing sports so it made her feel bad for a while. Overall, she knew the love of being photographed & so many people would constantly say, “you should be a model.” When her bestie decided to do photography & did one shoot with Kayla & it ignited a fire in our star player! She’s been going ever since. “4 years later I’m more confident then I ever been in my whole life. Modeling gave me a family that I feel I belong to. It’s a place for me there & I love it,” Model Bae says.

T.M. Is Grinding For A Lil Turn Up

Vegas recording artist T.M. chops it up with Straight Official’s DJ Spins to get the latest insight on what’s been going on with the Sin City MC’s latest single. We also got to know T.M. a little better with this exclusive one-on-one interview.

Q&A WITH T.M.

How did you come up with your stage name?
My original music mentor DJ Drumajpr from Atlanta GA gave me my artist name.

Tell us where you’re from & what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
I was born in Meridian MS, but grew up in Atlanta, GA. I’ve lived in Las Vegas for the last 20 years. I grew up in a radio family. My parents owned both FM & AM radio stations. While most kids go to day care, I went to the radio station every day. They had multiple stations and multiple formats I was exposed to a plethora of genres and style of music.

Who and or what inspires you to create?
I find inspiration to create all around me every day in my day to day life.  Conversations can inspire a lyric or melody. I find a lot of melodies just come to me while I’m doing daily chores or cooking. I’m inspired by a lot of artist. Originally it was The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Nirvana. There was just something about the harmonies, the melodies. The catchy, repetitive, simplistic hooks.

How would you describe your sound?
I guess I’d describe my sound as a blend of pop, hip-hop, & dance music, with a tiny punk edge to it.  I like to tell people I make Feel Good Music. It’s different yet warmly familiar.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?
My creative process really has to be seen to be believed. I go to the studio and my producer/engineer BG3nius has a collection of tracks ready for me. I preview the tracks for about 30-45 seconds. If a hook doesn’t come to my head within that time we skip to the next track. If I’m collaborating with other artist we let the song loop so they can write there verses.

Meanwhile I drop my first verse 1 take off top. Then I’ll play that back,  If there’s anything I don’t like or something that comes to mind that I feel fits better I’ll do a 2nd pass at the verse implementing those changes. I’ll hit my double of the verse to get it some depth and warmth. Then I hit my adlibs. If collaborating I then let my feature artist do their verse. Double it up, and hit their allies. Then I’ll hit my 2nd verse in the exact same fashion. Sometimes taking a little inspiration from the verse feature artist just hit.

What artist would you like to collaborate with?
There are so many to be honest. Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Rhianna, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Drake, Ye, Marshmallow, Kayne Brown, Ed Sheeran, Rivers Cumo, Dave Grohl. Mike Hererra, Sauce Walkah, Swizz Beats, Scott Storch, Fat Joe & T.I.

T.M.

Never quit chasing your dreams Even if others don’t understand them. If it brings you any kind of joy you can never give up or in.

T.M.’s message to his fans

SHIFTING GEARS

What is the most useless talent you have?
I think all talent has a use. You just gotta find the right use at the right time.

What would you be doing right now if you weren’t doing music?
Music is just one piece of the puzzle so I’d probably still be fling all my other stuff. Real estate investing, Crypto Investing and the FM radio game  (I’m a co-owner of an FM star 94.3FM in Lihue HI)

Who are some artist you admire and why?
I kind of admire any artist that’s willing to take the risk of putting themselves and their art out there on public display to be critiqued, judged and interpreted or misinterpreted by others.

If you could change anything about the music industry what would it be?
I think the industry is rapidly changing for the first time in a long time. Artist have so many tools and resources at our disposal that it’s not necessary to have to depend on taking the traditional route of trying to get noticed to get signed by a label. We can get our music to the ears of people all over the world if we can learn how to utilize all these new tools for marketing purposes.

T.M.
“T,M” Latest Single Cover Lil Turn Up

IN CONCLUSION

Tell us about your newest release?
My newest release is titled “Lil Turn Up” It’s a collaboration of myself, Bg3nius, & Yung Salvo.  It’s a feel good vibes pop/R&B Dance song. Very upbeat and uplifting. It’s get you in the perfect vibe and mindset for an evening out on the town or a day out in the water. It’s really just an all-around pop banger. The kind of song you’d expect to see on Billboard Top 100.

What’s next for yourself ? Where would you like to see yourself next year?
#16. What’s next is I’ll continue to push this track with the team for a few months hopefully realizing our goal of landing on the Billboard charts. Then I plan in dropping my next single “Woooah” featuring my dude Zel later in the year on DJ Jay Spins Wild Dogs Entertainment imprint.  In a year, I’d like to be collaborating with all the big artists. Any and everyone off my previous list. Hopefully touring doing some bigger shows. With a few Billboard plaques on the wall with some platinum and gold records.

Q&A WITH YOUNG POPE

How did you come up with your stage name?
My stage name was brought to me by a dream I had one night where I was in front of a big crowd and the background of the place I was at was a church. I then looked down and I saw that I was wearing a robe/pope robe. Since then I came up with the stage name “Young Pope”

Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry.
I was born in Mexico but have lived all my life in Houston, TX. What got me interested in the entertainment business was the spotlight an artist gets, that being the money, the fame and the thought of millions listening to my music and being real lifetime fans.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?
Great Artists like Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Drake are some who inspired me to create my music. Also, it inspires me to create knowing any song that I make can go to the top of the charts with one single clip on social media. That drives me to keep creating new music.

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as a Mainstream radio / Latin trap sound. If i can use a word to describe my sound i would say “Trendy”

Young Pope

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?
I start by playing beats on YouTube. On another phone I press record on my voice memos and I freestyle to different instrumentals. Once I have a base or a chorus/rhythm to the verses I go back and listen to the recording of the freestyle session and plug in words if needed and create as I listen back to the sessions

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Young Miko, Rauw Alejandro, Feid, Drake & Travis Scott

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?
It would have to be either bad bunny or Drake since I make both genres.

What is one message you would give to your supporters?
Never stop believing in your dreams even if nobody else believes in them. If you can visualize your dream in your head then you can make that come true. Stay focused and disciplined towards your goal because it will not come easy. Time is running out day by day so don’t waste it.

Young Pope

SHIFTING GEARS

What is the most useless talent you have?
The most useless talent is being able to overthink myself into thinking I have a rare disease.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
The same thing I would be doing now but minus the music and that would be having a high income job with multiple streams of income from other sources of income.

Who are some artists you admire and why?
Drake and J Balvin are two of the biggest artists I admire due to breaking the records beyond what anybody would ever think was possible and continuing to stay relevant for so long.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Invest in your craft, invest in yourself, and invest in your knowledge.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
It would be to open more doors for more artist to get the major spotlight big labels give to an artist.

IN CLOSING

Tell us about your latest release.
I just released 2 new singles, the latest one is “Tocar a ti” . It’s a Latin reggaeton song. My other release is “DMLQTQ” which is another Latin reggaeton song. Both of these records mark my lane to the Spanish side of my music career and they are the base of the hits I have in store coming.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself next year?
I have more music I want to release, more singles and an EP. I got English/Hip-Hop songs coming as well with visuals. Next year I would like to see myself on bigger platforms performing at bigger shows and expanding my fan base worldwide.

BROOKZ is a combination of my last name. I’m from Lancaster SC. My father got me interested in the entertainment business. He played the guitar & I learned how to play the piano & organ. When I turned seventeen I started DJ’ing local parties & events.

Brookz FMW Music Group

Who and/or what inspires you to create?
I’m inspired by what I see & hear mostly. Sometimes it’s a new artist on the rise that I can hear on certain style tracks or it’s the times we’re living in at that particular moment.

How would you describe your sound?
Original. I like new & different sounds. Sometimes I might create an original composition from scratch based on what sounds I like intertwined with whatever genre of music I think will fit it whether it’s rock, pop, soul, hip hop, country, classical etc. But it all depends on what I’m making it for also.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?
Depends on the mood. At times I might start out with a melody. Other times I might feel like I need to hear the percussion first. If I’m scoring something for a trailer or movie it’ll be some soundscapes or some type of cinematic sounds.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
Artists that have moved past the hobby stage of their career.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?
I’d like to produce a Hip-Hop record with Nas, Dr. Dre or OutKast & maybe an R&B record with Usher, Tank or Keisha Cole.

LET’S SHIFT GEARS

What is one message you would give to your supporters?
Thanks for vibin out to my music. Your part of the reason why I keep pushing along with my family & friends.

What is the most useless talent you have?
Stone or rock skimming

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
I would probably be working a 9-5 as a graphic or web designer at somebody’s company.

Who are some artists you admire and why?
I admire a lot of old school artists because they had to be authentic in what they created. While some have remade other people’s songs, it’s only because the label asked them to.

Be you. Everybody’s different in their own way & that separates you from the crowd

Brookz

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Leveling the playing field more. It’ll take more equality in order for that to happen but it’s needed.

WRAPPING IT UP

You dropped your latest release this year. Tell us about it.
I dropped two actually. We released a new instrumental mixtape project called “Nothing But Beats” with The Real DJ Spins. It’s a collection of ruff, rugged, raw & smooth Hip-Hop tracks that have the sound of yesterday all the way up to the new school sound of today. Since it’s release, the mixtape has gotten rave reviews & generating numbers globally.

I also have a series of workout releases called “Let’s Work It.” The latest is Vol. 7 which is on all streaming platforms & being used in all major gyms & workout centers like Flywheel, Peloton, Apple Fitness & Planet Fitness in the states & overseas.

Nothing But Beatz Vol 2 (Mixtape)

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
Doing what I like & love to do. Creating that next sound & working with more creative people that know what they want & have that desire to go get.No one is gonna give it to you. You’ve got to earn it.

BOZEA is an up and coming Hip-Hop artist that sat down with @djspins this week to talk about his recent moves and new single. Check out their one-on-one down below and stay locked in with Straight Official Magazine as we celebrate Hip-Hop, lifestyle & culture!

Q&A WITH BOZEA

How did you come up with your stage name? Tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

The name BOZEA came from a close friend who used to say I was a deep story teller like a prophet. I’m from Cleveland, OH. I was always excited about Rap/Hip-Hop. As a child and started writing lyrics at age 14 due to the challenges and struggles I was facing in my environment. I wanted to put my life story on paper.

Bozea

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

Seeing how far rap has gone and still striving keeps me motivated as well as the fans who support me.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is a Cleveland lyrical grimy style full of truth.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?

I go with what my mind gives me in everyday life and what the track causes me to create afterwards.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I’m down to collaborate with both major and independent artists who are lyrically talented and serious about their craft.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

I’m going to have to think big and say Jay Z, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and J Cole.

Always believe in yourself more than anyone else.

It’s hard to imagine not making music because it is my life.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

I admired 2Pac for his diversity in topics and Biggie for his creative wordplay.

The unnecessary violence and cut throat industry professionals.
