[La Bodega]Quarantine Talk: Javier Luis

WELCOME TO La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK, WHERE WE’VE HELD VARIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTIST’S & GROUPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD VIA ZOOM, EMAIL, SOCIAL MEDIA EVEN PLAIN OLD PHONE CONVERSATIONS.

WELCOME TO THE 25th EDITION OF La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS JAVIER LUIS
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW

SO. What is your Name?
JL. My name is Javier Luis.  where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in New York City’s Upper West Side.
Music has always been a part of my family growing up. As a baby, I started singing before speaking.
One of the first songs that my mother said i use to sing as a child was “Que Viva Chango” lol Makes perfect sense today, I am the son of Chango.
My first taste of singing was when I auditioned and got picked to performed at my 8th grade talent show, I was so scared but when I got through my song and saw the audiences reaction (and it was a FULL house), the feedback and the adrenalin that I felt, I knew this was something I wanted to continue doing for LIFE.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDQ3C876n20

SO. Who and/or what inspires you to create?
JL. My muse and my mother Carmen Martinez inspires me to create.
I grew up singing and performing in English and was a lead singer in a 40 member Gospel choir for many years.
My mother was always on top of me telling me that I should really consider singing in Spanish.
I kind of ignored that suggestion for many years until she approached me with a song she wrote titled “Alma Chapada A La Antigua”.  She read it to me and helped me understand the lyrics.
I decided to take the song and research a Salsa producer.
I found one and went into the studio and invited 12 musicians including coro singers to create what would be my first Salsa song ever.  By the way, I am proud to say that my mother who is also a member of ASCAP music as a songwriter has written a few of the songs on my first and second CD productions.
My muse is what also inspires me.  When he or she kicks in i swear I do not have normal brain cells or think like the average person. My minds creative mode becomes deep and daring.
For example…the story board for all of my music videos were created by me, some times I find that i am directing the director of the music video, all of the melodic arrangements from lead vocal to background vocals on many of my Salsa and ballad songs and my English songs were created by me, I’ve written my own English songs in which I’ve won awards for and have co-written soneos in many of my salsa songs.  When my muse is sleeping, I kinda find myself lost.  It’s all about my muse.

SO. How would you describe your sound?
JL. I’d like to describe my sound as a combination of some classic Salsa swing with modern romantic twist.  Many have criticized romantic Salsa, but I always made sure I worked with producers and arrangers who can add that funky classic Salsa element  to today Romantic sound. As a second tenor, my vocals have been described to be rich in tone and my delivery very passionate.   I am very picky with songs.  I don’t want to come across as a bougie Puerto Rican but it’s all about the lyrics for me.

SO. What is your creative process like?
JL. My mood dictates my songs.  I like to spend time by myself when writing songs.  I’ve been asked by people in the past to co-write a song together and I tell you….That doesn’t work for me.  I can’t be in the same room with others when writing.  Also part of my creative process is mental. Lyrics are also very important to me.  I am a fan of musica intellectual.  When i sing the lyrics to a song, i need to know all of its meanings.   Once i know what each word means i can connect deeply with the song on a spiritual level and when I get to that level, my audience can really feel me. Going to the gym to work on my body and do my vocal exercises at home also sets my mind on that creative process.  In a world full of Salsa singers, i like to think outside the box, push envelopes and perhaps either make some feel uncomfortable or make some people aspire to follow my lead with a non traditional approach.

SO. What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
JL. I’ve always wanted to collaborate with La India.

SO. What is one message you would give to your supporters?
JL. My message to my supporters is “THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING SO FAITHFUL AND SUPPORTIVE OF ME AND MY MUSIC.  There have been moments where I’d run into a dry spell in my career and when I have returned to the stage, my fans have always pulled through and filled the house up with their presence.  I am truly blessed.

SO. What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
JL. Cooking.  My mother and my grand-father taught me to cook and fend for myself.  My family have encouraged me to open up a restaurant.  I love to cook my traditional Puerto Rican foods, plus I love to cook Italian, Asian, I love to bake cakes from scratch.  The best part of cooking and creating in the kitchen is getting my dinner guests expression when they get their first bite of my food.  Who knows, maybe one day I’ll open up a restaurant or a food truck.  I’ll be known as the singing chef.  LOL

SO. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
JL. Probably cooking full time.

SO. Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
JL. I admire and gravitate towards vocalists.  I love powerful singers and would pay money to go to concerts for artists such as Celia Cruz, Luis Miguel, Marc Anthony, La India, Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo.

SO. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
JL. Stop making the music industry into a modeling industry.  Real talented vocalist are being by passed and the the monies are being invested in good looking boys and girls who’s vocals are fixed in the studio.  I think vocal talent shows on tv have ruined the industry.  Because of this show,  EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOTHERS want to be singers.  I think real talented people are being left behind.  Singing is a sacred art and its not given the respect it deserves.

SO. What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
JL. Right now my single “Yo no soy un delincuente” will be re-released in March under Chu-Bano Entertainment in which i am very excited about.  I say re-release because I originally released “Yo no soy un delincuente” back in June of 2019 and so many obstacles have presented itself including the pandemic which put a damper on my songs potential.   I also have a couple of other projects that i have been working on since 2021 that i hope to realize this year.  I don’t want to say much about my other projects at the moment.  I come from the old school way of thinking, don’t share any pre-productions until you know 99% of it is completed.  When it is ready to be released, then you can start on heavy promotions a month or two before it’s release with a little snippet of the song or music video.   Now I see many people in the recording doing facebook live letting the world hear what they are creating.  I think that’s a big mistake and you’re kinda jinxing yourself. I come from a very spiritual family and I have always been told that ‘You should never let your left hand know what your right hand is doing and you should never your right hand know what your left hand is doing. (sounds better in Spanish LOL).  In other words, during your creative process and pre-production and during production, keep everything under wraps.  Not everyone wants to see you succeed and a person(s) jealous and negative thoughts can be the worst witch craft casted on a person….if you believe in that.

SO. What is your social media?
JL. You can follow me on
http://facebook.com/Javierluismusica
http://instagram.com/javierluisvoz
and you can also find information on my website Singer | Javier Luis
Also via email ChubanoEntertainment@gmail.com or Miramarentertainment@yahoo.com

One advice that I’ve been given was “find your own voice”.  When I started singing and performing around New York City, I was always told that I look or sound like this artist and that artist.  That advice helped me get out of that imitation mode that I was in and helped me find “Javier Luis”

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

WELCOME TO THE 24th EDITION OF La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS KATRE
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW

SO. What are your Names? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
K. Hello and thanks for having us.
My name is Hasan, I am the guitar player of the instrumental rock band Katre.
Together with Şah Cihan (Synth),
Okaner (Drums), and
Özgür (Bass),
Katre has been around for seven years now.
The band is based in Berlin. Half of the band members live in Turkey and the other half in
Germany.

SO. Who and/or what inspires you to create?
K. Hasan: There are certain things I cannot understand. Do you know the song “Learning to
Live” by Dream Theater? There it says “I look at the world and see no understanding”. That
is, I guess, my motivation to create and how I protest against it.

SO. How would you describe your sound?
K. Hasan: Layered, heavy, sometimes optimistic, and sometimes pessimistic.

SO. What is your creative process like?
K. Hasan: Usually, I write the songs and the stories, play the guitars, and maybe add some midi
arrangements. Each band member extends and enriches the material by recording their
parts and giving constant feedback to the others. Besides being talented musicians, we are
talking about very good music listeners in Katre, so it is hard to convince them. We iterate
until everybody feels good with the result. Hence, when we are happy with the final
product, I know we did a good job 🙂

SO. What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
K. Hasan: My choice would be Daniel Gildenlöw of Pain of Salvation.

SO. What is one message you would give to your supporters?
K. Hasan: First of all, thanks for supporting us, we appreciate it. If I may, I would like to add the
following: When listening to our songs, read the stories we created for each of them.
Empathize and feel with the protagonists. This will most probably give you a different
listening experience.

SO. What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
K. Hasan: Cool question 🙂 I do not know. I have some scientific publications. Haha, not quite
sure, does that count as a skill?

SO. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
K. Hasan: Probably reading a book or watching a movie

SO. Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
K. Hasan: Artist-wise Erkan Oğur, a great musician and personality from Turkey, is a huge
influence. He values silence in music. This inspired me a lot. By the way, he contributed to
the opening track of Encounters with his magical guitar solo. Also Daniel Gildenlöw. He is a
modern-day philosopher, a great musician, and has a sincere personality.
Apart from this, I admire Selahattin Demirtaş, because apart from his contributions to
democracy in Turkey, he has written incredible stories. Another important personality for
me is Ömer Madra, the editor-in-chief of an award-winning independent radio from Turkey,
Açık Radyo. I admire his perseverance and value his contributions towards creating
awareness on global warming and climate change, long before it came to the attention of
the mainstream media.

“You do not have to love one, but respect one”.

Hasan: when asked “What is the best advice you’ve been given”?

SO. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
K. Hasan: The way how Spotify allocates the royalties (and treated artists). I would change it
such that only the artists I listen to receive the royalties – not any other popular band which
already has 3 million followers.

SO. What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
K. Hasan: We are working on some visual materials and at the same time contacting promoters
for playing live. Due to the pandemic, it is hard to find appropriate slots. So I will not be
disappointed if we are not booked. But concerning the visual materials, I think we will have
one or two video clips in the next few months.

SO. What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?
K. Hasan: I guess checking our web page www.katremusic.com is the best way to get in touch
as you can find social media information there as well. Thanks a lot for having us. We enjoyed
the questions. Wish you all the best!

Cypress Hill announces new album, shares new track “Bye Bye” feat. Dizzy Wright

Cypress Hill has returned with their tenth studio album, Back In Black, produced entirely by Black Milk and due March 18, 2022 via MNRK. To ring in the announcement, the group has shared new single “Bye Bye,” featuring a standout verse from rapper Dizzy Wright — listen and pre-order Back In Black HERE. The new track comes on the heels of the announcement of the band’s extensive slate of touring for the year, including a leg of Slipknot’s Knotfest Roadshow 2022. Find all announced tour dates below. In yet another monumental move, the group has announced a brand-new documentary titled Insane In The Brain: Cypress Hill, which will be released this spring.

“In Cypress Hill tradition, we always try to make a dark song,” Cypress Hill’s B Real says about “Bye Bye.” “It’s what we’ve been known for, especially on our first three albums. This song is a statement. In a roundabout way, we spoke to the politics of today. Being lulled into this dreamworld by the government. Trying to blind us from the separation that they created, to put us to sleep while they do whatever they want.”

“Bye Bye” follows the 2021 release of album highlights “Open Ya Mind” and “Champion Sound.” Back in Black is Cypress Hill’s first full length since 2018’s Elephants on Acid, and comes at an already busy time for the band. Cypress Hill recently wrapped a co-headline tour with Atmosphere, and celebrated the 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking self-titled debut album with a sold-out show at LA’s Greek Theatre and an expanded anniversary edition reissue of their critically acclaimed debut. The band recently partnered with Z2 Comics for their very own original graphic novel, Cypress Hill: Tres Equis! which is out now. In addition to launching their own NFT collection at the end of 2021 — which sold out of “legendaries” and “rares” and will see a Back In Black collection dropping in March — the band also launched their own STANCE sock.

[LA BODEGA] QUARANTINE TALK: Brian Dalton

WELCOME TO La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK, WHERE WE’VE HELD VARIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTIST’S & GROUPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD VIA ZOOM, EMAIL, SOCIAL MEDIA EVEN PLAIN OLD PHONE CONVERSATIONS.

WELCOME TO THE 21ST EDITION OF La Bodega QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS BRIAN DALTON.
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW.

SOMag: What is your Name? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
BD: My name is Brian Dalton. I first got my interest in the entertainment industry from watching
my mother sing when I was growing up, then once I developed my own taste in
music I started imitating and following mostly rock bands.

SOMag?: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
BD: I get my inspiration from traveling mostly. I love going to places I’ve never been just to
experience something new and I’m very grateful for every new experience I’m able to have.

SOMag?: How would you describe your sound?
BD: My sound is mix between rock, pop, and synth wave.

SOMag?: What is your creative process like?
BD: Usually, it starts with just a melody created by either my producer or myself and then
through collaboration it’s built into an entire song.

SOMag?: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
BD: I’d love to collaborate with multiple artists really. Metallica, Yungblud and The Midnight are
a few that come to mind.

SOMag?: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
BD: That we’re in all of this together. The whole crazy journey. I appreciate them so much and if
they ever need a hand in picking themselves back up, I hope I can be there to provide that
for them.

SOMag?: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
BD: My most hidden ability is that I can travel through MOST walls. Granted I have to be
traveling at an extreme rate of speed and I’m almost always injured afterward, but I can
travel through most walls.
What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
If I wasn’t pursuing the music dream, I’d probably be doing something that still involved
traveling. Like scuba diving or something in the medical field.

SOMag?: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
BD: I’d have to say that I admire any artist/band that has made a career in music. You’re told
“no” so often in this business that it can take a really long time to get a “yes” from anyone,
and having an actual career requires A LOT of yeses. So to anyone who has put in the work
and stuck it out long enough to “make it”: You have my admiration and respect.

The best advice I’ve heard came from a movie: “Life’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s
about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Brian Dalton When Asked What Is The Best Advice You’ve Been Given?

SOMag?: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
BD: Payment for the artists. Whether it be the amount earned per stream (normally half a penny
or less) or the amount the crooks running most major labels take out of their artists earnings
before they actually pay them (normally 85% or more).

SOMag?: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
BD: In the next year I’d like to be signed to a respectable and ethical indie label touring
worldwide. My PR team and I are working on that now.

SOMag?: What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?
BD: You can find me at.

THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS FOIVOS FROM Greece.

Live Performance

SOMag: What are your Names? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
F: My name is Foivos Zacharopoulos and I’m from Greece. I actually wasn’t thinking of
becoming a professional musician. I was proposed to substitute a guitarist at the age of
sixteen, just for a month, and that was it. I was fortunate and capable enough to do a good
job, so I was offered a place in the band. After 22 years, the story goes on.

SOMag: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
F: Inspiration can be found everywhere, as long as you keep your mind open. So, it’s not a
certain thing that gets me inspired. It can be literally anything.

SOMag: How would you describe your sound?
F: I remember John Petrucci saying for one album Dream Theater recorded, that he wanted his
sound to be, like a three-floor chocolate cake, with melted chocolate in between. Couldn’t
describe it better. Just huge and sweet.

SOMag: What is your creative process like?
F: Depends on the mood. Sometimes, I get a melody stuck in my head, so I go and record it
and go from there. There are times when I just fool around with a sound, and a riff comes
out or a chord progression. Usually, it’s a sound, which gets me in the zone of creation, from
any instrument.

SOMag: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
F: Sting is at the top of that list. His music is so versatile and interesting for anyone who plays
music or just loves listening to.

SOMag: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
F: Keep supporting bands and musicians that you enjoy their music. It’s the only way for any of
them, to keep doing what they love and also gives courage to new musicians and bands to
start doing what they want the most. To play music.

SOMag: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
F: Well, I can cook really well. The whole process of cooking a meal, is quite relevant to a
creation of a song. You have to have quality products, and everything must be in the right
quantity. Also give time and love. It always has better and satisfying results..

SOMag: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
F: I have no idea. I can’t imagine myself doing something different than being a musician.
Perhaps something that might involve animals and protecting or caring them.

SOMag: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
F: I admire any artist that innovates in his field, or tries to think outside of the box and
experiment with his art. From Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to Meshuggah and Pain of
Salvation, the list goes on and on..

Be patient and don’t rush things. And always speak up for myself, whenever I feel wronged
in any way.

Foivos when asked What is the best advice you’ve been given?

SOMag: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
F: From the very moment that something gives you profit, problems start to appear. The more
profit, the more people are drawn to it. The more people usually mean, not loving music or
the product in general, but the money that comes from it. So, I’d change the people that
have no interest in music, with some that do have some interest and love music first and
foremost.

SOMag: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
F: If all goes well, with the Covid (Quarantine) situation, start performing live and communicate my music,
as much as possible, is the number one priority. In one year from now, I’d like to see myself
recording a full album and then go touring for a long time..

entertainment industry?
I: My name is Dave D.R. I’m originally from Ottawa, Ontario. My interest in music began when I was
very young, My uncle was a professional drummer in the 80’s and 90’s and he was a huge influence
on me, By the time I was 7 years old I knew music was my path in life.

SOMag: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
I: I find inspiration everywhere. From my past, day to day life, horror films, literature, and the list goes
on. I like to write about things I’ve experienced first hand, but I’ll write songs about anything of
interest.

SOMag: How would you describe your sound?
I: I think the best way to describe it is classic style Heavy Metal, with a bit of contemporary Metal
mixed in as well.

SOMag: What is your creative process like?
I: Most of the time everything begins with me jamming on guitar. I’ll just be improvising and suddenly
I’ll play a riff that really stands out and as I play I start to get ideas for lyrics and the full
orchestration. I later use those as a guide when I’m recording. Sometimes a cool bass riff or
keyboard riff can start things off as well. It’s one of the upsides of being a multi-instrumentalist.

SOMag: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
I: I would love to collaborate with Ralf Scheepers, Rob Halford, Biff Byford, Kai Hansen, Andi Deris,
Steve Harris, Michael Schenker and several others!

SOMag: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
I: Thank you so much for supporting Immortalizer. It’s Metalheads like you that help keep me going
and I’m extremely grateful to you all! \m/

SOMag: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
I: That’s a good question. I consider music to be my greatest talent/skill of course, but aside from
music I think I would have to say my drawing ability. I’ve always loved to draw. I love designing
album covers and I design my tattoos as well.

SOMag: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
I: I think I would probably be making films. I’ve always loved movies and I considered a career in film. I
even went to film school for a short time before permanently setting my sights on music.

SOMag: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
I: I greatly admired Lemmy of Motörhead. His I live my life my way attitude always resonated with me.
I also greatly admired his distinctive bass playing style and his song writing ability. I also greatly
admire Ralf Scheepers. His passion for Metal is truly inspiring. Not to mention his legendary vocal
ability. He is one of the best Metal singers of all time in my opinion.
Rob Halford is definitely another person I greatly admire. For his incredible vocal talents and his
courage. It took a lot of guts to be one of the first openly gay Metal stars despite the risks to his
career. The full list would be far too long, but I’d say those are the top three.

SOMag: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
I: I think the best advice I’ve ever been given came from my uncle Paul when I was a kid. He told me to
never give up on my dreams and to not listen to anyone who tries to put you down and tell you you
can’t succeed in music.

SOMag: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I: Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I would love to see more music venues, (bars and music halls) opening
back up and having live music so bands have more places to play live.

SOMag: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
I: Well, I plan to continue writing and recording my full-length album as I search for the right label and
management company to help propel Immortalizer to new heights! By this time next year I hope to
have finished the album and found a band to be able to play shows and tour as well as grow as a
band.
