San Francisco QB Brock Purdy would get to work leading them down the field with passes to FB Kyle Juszczyk and RB Christian McCaffrey. The Chiefs defense would force a fumble from McCaffrey, giving them good field position for their first offensive drive.

Defense would be the theme of the first quarter as both teams would exchange punts. The 49ers would score the first points of the game off of a 55-yard field goal from kicker Jake Moody. This would be the longest field goal in Super Bowl history.

The Chiefs received the ball and Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce would finally connect. Kelce was held to just one catch for one yard in the first half. On this drive he would have two catches for 29 yards. The 49ers defense again would prove to be a problem for Mahomes. The 49ers would take seven plays to get to the Chief 35 yard line with the two-minute warning stopping the game. Their drive would stall out, bringing out Moody to kick a 53 yard field goal and take the lead 19-16. Kansas City would take the ball with 1:50 left in the game. Mahomes would again use his arm and feet to get the Chiefs in position to either tie or win the game. Deep in the red zone, Kelce & Mahomes couldn’t connect on a touchdown pass.

With ten seconds left in the game, Butker got the call and would kick a 29 yard field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime!

OVERTIME BITES THE 49ERS

McCaffrey then rushed to get them inside the 10 but after a incomplete pass from Purdy, Moody was brought out to kick a field goal.

This made the score 22-19 and forced the Chiefs to either tie with a kick or score a touchdown to win the game.

The Chiefs took possession and Mahomes began to work his comeback magic. On a 13 play drive that included a 19 yard run from Mahomes and backwards pass to Valdes-Scantling, the Chiefs got to the 49ers 13 yard line. Two plays later Mahomes would find WR Mecole Hardman for a touchdown pass. This would end the game with the score 25-22 and make the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII Champions!
