CP HLG

MEET CP HLG

CP HLG is a talented content creator. He makes us all laugh out loud with over-the-top comedy sketches. Best known for his “Me and My Cokehead Roommate” series, the San Diego native is all across social media and becoming a staple in the content creator community.

Chris Parker has never been camera shy. “I’ve always had a knack for being on camera since I was a kid. I was always the talkative, funny person. So when my mom got a camera, I used to create my own home films with my cousin when I was younger.” CP is a creative that isn’t afraid to push the envelope to make people laugh.

CP HLG

“I would describe my content as that early 2000’s comedy. Back then, humor was no holds barred on jokes. Any and everything was up for grabs.” CP HLG uses clips from old WWE interviews with “Macho Man Randy Savage” that tie in his over the edge style of humor.”

CP HLG

His Creative Process

I asked CP HLG about his process and what inspires him to be a creative. “A great mixture of things inspire me now that didn’t catch my interest back then as times & comedic forms has changed.” Besides Eddie Griffin and “Home Alone” CP draws inspiration from the effect of his comedy on fans. “Seeing the reaction of people and my fans who really get a laugh outta my content. It really drives me to do more & more.”

CP has come a long way from his earlier days since his boom into popularity. “My routine now isn’t what it once was when I started as things have become more bigger on my platform. But I wake up early in the AM head to my living room and shoot about 4-5 videos for that day. I use my phone for literally everything (filming, editing, etc…).”

Shifting Gears

I asked CP about dealing with today’s current climate when it comes to comedy. “I’m not afraid to go a little overboard for that punch line, but today’s comedy not so much. Things are becoming more and more sensitive.” CP is grateful for his decision to pursue a lane in content creation. “Truth be told, I’d probably be bouncing from job to job. With it being hard to keep a job, content creation has really helped me in that aspect.”

CP HLG

A tree doesn’t grow overnight. It takes time, patience and most of all management. If you want to make it in this world, remember that.

CP HLG

Wrapping It Up

CP HLG has a hidden talent outside of being a content creator that came up in our convo. “A major skill of mine is that I’m AMAZING at almost any video game I touch! I can also for some remember all old school video game music (laughs).” I gave CP the floor to close out our interview.

“My final words are ones that everyone should remember. That in the times you feel like your missing everything, remember that trees lose their leaves every year AND still stand tall waiting for better days.”

Straight Official Sit Downs: Afro Preachah

Straight Official Magazine Logo
Afro Preachah

AFRO PREACHAH stopped by our headquarters for this edition of Straight Official Sit Downs where we spotlight emerging artists. @TenthLetterMedia got the opportunity to chop it up with him this time and the vibe was dope! Check out their one-on-one down below and click here for more Straight Official Sit Downs.

Q&A WITH AFRO PREACHAH

Introduce yourself. Tell us where you are from and what first interested you in the entertainment industry?

They call me Afro Preachah. I was born in Kansas City, KS and grew up in Missouri before moving to Minnesota. The name was given to me by my producer friend Griff.  What interested me was watching music videos from Run DMC, Public Enemy, Morris Day, Bootsy Collins.

Who or what inspires you to create?

My first inspiration was my father and grandfather.  Both are preachers. Growing up in church. The rhythm of music in general. Music, words and rhythm have been on auto play my whole life.

How would you describe your sound?

I would say it’s a fusion of then and now. Old and new.  Hip-Hop, Funk, R&B, Soul and sounds of Gospel.  So folks call is “Sexy Chuuch music”.  It makes me laugh.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Tell us about your creative process. What are your go-to’s for a session?

I like to just vibe out in my mancave when I get the music from my producers.  Play video games, watch anime, smoke one. Surround myself with art. I basically “Nerd Out” (laughs).

What artists would you like to collaborate with?

Artists I’m a fan of.include Morris Day, Tech N9ne, Trinidad James, MC Lyte, Chris Brown, 69 Boys & Bootsy Collins.

Afro Preachah

The music is for you & them, not me. The real grassroot. I’m just the vessel. I could never say thank you enough. Living my dream to do music for folks that want it is a true blessing. Gratitude.

Afro Preachah’s words to his fans

LET’S SHIFT GEARS

What’s a skill/talent that you possess that no one knows about?

I practice five different forms of Kung-Fu & Martial Arts.

If not for music, where would you be in life right now?

That’s a great question.  I’ll have to ask God and get back to you on that one.

If you could change the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?

Well, in a dream I had all labels support all artists from an independent artist aspect. Why that change? Speaking for myself, I’m an LLC. Yes, I’m an artist but business comes first.  So, presenting any kind of business that would hurt personally is off the table.

Important things artists should know. How to balance their checkbooks, understanding sync licensing to running your independent artist website. Labels offer real music business education.  In these past years in my opinion, we’ve had why to many negative outcomes in our African American entertainment community.  Label can make just as much money by educating their artists to own themselves. Then I woke up! (laughs)

CHIEFS vs. RAVENS | AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs would kick off the NFL Championship round of the playoffs today. The Chiefs (11-6) are the defending Super Bowl Champions and beat the Buffalo Bills last week to advance. The Ravens (13-4) are back in the AFC Championship game behind MVP candidate Lamar Jackson. Their win against the Houston Texans last week punched their ticket to this round.

FIRST QUARTER HIGLIGHTS

Baltimore would receive the ball to start the game but would be forced to punt after a three-and-out. Kansas City would take over and begin their first drive on offense. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes would find TE Travis Kelce on a few plays while RB Isiah Pacheco carried the team into the red zone with some big runs. The Chiefs would cap off the drive with a 19 yard touchdown pass to Kelce. This gave them an early 7-0 lead.

The Ravens would attempt to match their score with the next possession. QB Lamar Jackson would use his arm and legs to move Baltimore down the field quickly. He would run for a big 21 yard scamper on a fourth down play that saved the drive. Jackson threw for over 60 yards on the drive including a 30 yard pass to Zay Flowers for a touchdown.

With the score tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter, the Chiefs would get into Baltimore territory after some good passes from Mahomes to WR Rahsee Rice.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

The Chiefs moved into the red zone behind a great catch from Kelce with Mahomes taking a big hit on defense. Mahomes used his legs as well as his arm to get Kansas City at first and goal. They finished the 16 play drive with Pacheco running in for a touchdown. The Ravens defense looked shaky and nervous as they fell behind 14-7.

The Ravens offense would turn the ball over on a fumble from Jackson which set up Kansas City at the 40 yard line. The Chiefs would use the run game to try to add to their lead. After Pacheco was stopped on a fourth down drive however, Baltimore would take the ball back. Jackson would lead his team down the field with a miraculous 13 yard pass to himself off a deflected pass. Despite his heroics, the Chiefs defense forced them to punt.

Defense was the focus from here on out. Baltimore’s defense began to come alive after stopping the Chiefs quickly on offense. Stalled drives from both teams would find the Chiefs with the ball late in the second quarter. Things got chippy as two costly penalties against Baltimore would get Kansas City going. The Chiefs offense would sputter as two penalties (one of them nullified a touchdown score) made them settle for a field goal to take a 17-7 lead into halftime.

AFTER THE BREAK

The Chiefs would receive the ball to start the third quarter. Both the Ravens and Chiefs defense would force three-and-outs resulting in punts. Defense continued to take control of the game as neither team could capitalize on offense. The Ravens defense would come alive after an impromptu apperance by Terelle Suggs would force the Chiefs to punt again late in the third quarter.

The Ravens offense found momentum late in the third quarter. Jackson would find Flowers for a 54 yard pass and another 11 yard pass to move them into the red zone to end the quarter. The Ravens would turn the ball over again, this time on a Zay Flowers fumble in the end zone recovered by the Chiefs. This resulted in Kansas City getting the ball back.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Still leading by 10, Mahomes got to work quickly connecting with Kelce to start their first drive of the fourth quarter. The Ravens defense however had other plans as they forced the fourth punt from the Chiefs of the half. The Ravens moved down on the field on a 10 play drive that included a big pass from Jackson to WR Nelson Agholor. Two plays later, Jackson was intercepted by Deon Bush which gave the Chiefs the ball back.

PENALTIES COST THE RAVENS

Baltimore would have one more chance to score to close the gap. They would get to the Chiefs’ 25 yard line before being forced to kick a field goal to make the score 17-10. Penalties hurt the Ravens all game as their 8th one of the game helped fuel the Chiefs next drive. Mahomes found Marques Valdez-Scantling for a 22 yard pass to get to the two minute warning.

The Ravens found themselves with no timeouts remaining in the game. This would allow Mahomes to just kneel on the ball to run out the clock. Jackson sat on the sideline dejected as his team would only watch as Kansas City would win the AFC Championship.

This win allows the Chiefs to move on to the Super Bowl in two weeks. This is the 4th time they have made the Super Bowl in the past 5 seasons. The Ravens season comes to an end with many of their fans wondering what happened to their momentum coming into this game.

After an ten play drive that stalled out due to a fumble by Mecole Hardman Jr., the Chiefs would settle for three points making the score 10-6.

The Chiefs received the ball to start the third quarter and they got to work quickly. Mahomes would use his legs and arm to move the Chiefs down the field. After finding WR Marques Valdez-Scantling for a 30 yard pass, he would run for 24 yards to get Kansas City inside the redzone. He added 14 more rushing yards before finding Kelce for his second touchdown catch of the game. This gave the Chiefs a 20-17 lead.

Mahomes would find Valdez-Scantling again for a huge pass for 32 yards to put the Chiefs at the Buffalo 18 to end the quarter. Pacheco would then begin the fourth quarter with a 4 yard touchdown run. This gave the Chiefs the lead 27-24 and was the 7th lead change of the game!

COSTLY MISTAKES BY CHIEFS & BILLS

Down 3 early in the forth quarter, the Bills offense would stall after a incomplete pass from Allen to Diggs. They would attempt to go for it on fourth down but was unsuccessful after Damar Hamlin failed to convert on a punt fake run. This allowed the Chiefs to take possession. Pacheco would break for a big 32 yard run that got them in scoring postion.

Just when it seemed Kansas City would score again, a fumble by Hardeman would see the ball go out of bounds in the end zone. Buffalo challenged the runner was down by contact ruling, and the play was reversed. This would result in a touchback and give the Bills the ball at the 20.

After back to back punts from both teams, Buffalo would take a shot to reclaim the lead. The drive nearly came to end when Allen fumbled the ball on a run attempt. The Bills would recover and move into Chiefs territory. Allen would convert a huge 4th down attempt with a pass to Shakir. Buffalo would end up just outside the redzone as the two-minute warning stopped the game.

The Bills would try to tie the game once again with a field goal. Tyler Bass who has been perfect this playoff series, missed wide right from 44 yards out.
