The Love Album: Off The Grid | @Diddy

There are only 4 reasons you wouldn’t love this album: You prefer new school music, you don’t like dancing, you’re just bias, or you just never loved anybody. Now, Diddy recently received the VMA Global Icon Award, the key to New York City, and BET‘s Lifetime Achievement Award. When he says, “I thought I told you that we won’t stop,” he means it!

via StraightOfficial.com

I feel safe in white, deep down inside I’m an angel…

@Diddy

The Love Album Is A MOVIE

The album is feature-film length with 23 tracks at roughly over an hour and 20 minutes. He’s landed the love and collaboration of various jaw dropping peers including Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber, The Wknd, & Jazmine Sullivan. In the mist of controversy – this album still takes you through a narration of finding love, being there, complicating it, and losing it. All of this is happening “off the grid” and as he says – with no phones, no distractions. The lead single on the production is “Another One of Me”. I don’t know how you could’ve missed this joint – but let’s jump into a track -by-track review.

What’s To Love About It? Let’s Review

Okay, so let’s talk about it – the tracks with an asterisk (*) indicate the ones deemed worthy of adding to your playlist. Wait no longer, Let’s do it!

1. Brought My Love (The-Dream + Herb Albert)

Starting off, we have a very funky-feel with vocals from songwriting legend Dream, followed by Diddy and Herb. A lot of these songs don’t actually feature anything but Diddy adlibs, so this was good to hear. If nothing, this is a dance record. Family reunions, two stepping with your love in the living room, cleaning the house… this is that vibe. Not too much, just enough.

*2. What’s Love (NOV WAV)

A New York feel with R&B swag. No lie, I did have to listen to this a few times to really love it, but I can’t complain. Diddy is also on this track which does give it a boost in opinion. Overall, the production – the feeling is everything.

3. Deliver Me (Busta Rhymes, Dirty Money)

If you liked the Dirty Money album then of course, this is for you, babe! Featuring your favorite Danity Kane girl(s). It’s very smooth, still maintaining that aggressive beat. The whole album is vibey. It really just depends on which Diddy era you prefer, I suppose.

4. Stay Awhile (Nija)

Another dance record that just hits. Really groovy (lol)! If you’re a Mary J. Blige fan, this might be your thing! This album almost doesn’t miss unless you just missed it.

5. Homecoming (Jozzy)

Ooooh, we have Diddy prodigy, Jozzy on the track. It’s not one of my favorites, let’s be honest. It’s pretty good though. I don’t think it’s a great representation of Jozzy but I’d have to hear that from her. This is a skip from me. Good production though. That ending is beautifuuuul too. JUST LISTEN TO IT THOUGH!!

*6. Pick Up (Diddy feat. Jacquees + Fabolous)

The song starts with Jacquee-Ee-eeeEe-eeS. “Ima give you what you need babe, if you let me take the lead baby”! I was unsure when it started but Diddy make Jacq pick up the pace and I like it. Fabolous always adds a special flair and this was nothing different.

*7. Tough Love ( Diddy feat. Swae Lee)

THIS. IS. MUSICAL. GOLD. I didn’t expect to love this song and I listened a few times to get to that point, but fiiiiireeee. The combination I never knew I needed. This track is built for a specific type of person though. Not heavy on lyrics but how the notes come together. And it just makes you think “Shame on me for how I’ve been living”…

*8. Stay Long (Summer Walker)

Personally, I’m a Summer Walker fan so I was interested to know what this would be like. But it’s short and sweet just like Summer.

9. It Belongs to You (Jozzy)

Jozzy, this was so much better. 90s/00s vibes. If Keyshia Cole started later in the years, I believe she may have sounded like this.

*10. Another One of Me (21 Savage, The Wknd, French Montana)

This was the lead single and rightfully so. The Wknd says this is his last collab so definitely love that it has to be this one. It has a slow start though. French ate his verse especially for what this is! 21 comes with his rhythm we expect… but this just feels classier. Diddy ends the song speaking so smoothly. You can’t help but feel it.

11. Intermission (Side B)

Feel free to skip unless you just meditating or something… He says here, that the frequency changes… and we get a little old-school interlude. It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong. This album is a win to me, but people have preferences. JUST LISTEN!!! or not….

*12. Moments (Justin Bieber)

JUSTIIIIN! Babyyyy… this is the Justin you guys don’t know about. The “Notebooks” Bieber. You’ve seen in the media that he’s been paralyzed in the face but honey you cannot tell here. I instantly loved this. I always thought Bieb was a star vocalist though (again lol). Nevertheless, this will vibe you through. Minimal Diddy. Just vibes. Get in your bag, stay in your bag, he says. Let me send this to my lil brother, he needs those words. And we end with a smooth instrumental outro.

*13. Need Somebody (Jazmine Sullivan)

Jazmine Sullivan feels as expected. She starts soft but you feel the emotion. We’re used to herlower registers. JAZ’S SOPRANO REGISTER POPS OUT ALL THE WAY! She’s amazing at anything. ADD!

*14. Mind Your Business (Bosses In Love) [Kehlani/Ty Dolla Sign]

My first run through of this album, this was an immediate add! I don’t know, maybe it’s just me… Perfect blend of live and studio how I see it though. WEST COAST REPRESENT! These people are singing for their rent!! From beginning to end, if you know then you know – you’ll need this song!

15. Nasty (Interlude) [Jozzy]

I told you she’s the prodigy (Jozzy, 32, Memphis). Here’s a (nasty) interlude with Jozzy. It’s actually good though. Not too vulgar…well…

*16. Reachin’ (Coco Jones, Ty Dolla Sign)

I don’t know… I feel like Ty makes this song. Of course an interlude almost tells you what you’re getting into… so you can USE this, too. What is it about Coco, you guys!!?? Production on 700000% though. My loooooove.

*17. Stay Part 1 (Jeremih, KalanFRFR, K-Ci)

A continuation of the interlude. “Baby won’t you just staaay!” Diddy should’ve kept his input to himself. If we’re using this song for a moment, I could see it happening.

*18. I Like (Mary J. Blige)

VERY CUTE! Ms. Ma’am been popping out lately. Very classy, classic, dance around vibe, of course. It’s simple and catchy – just enough. If I can’t be with you, I don’t know what to do you’ve got my heart! Beautiful sample of herself!

*19. Closer to God (Teyana Taylor)

At this point, we’ve recently learned about the separation of Tey(T), yet she’s still taking on other creative ventures in life. She cries out in the song “Everything unspoken doesn’t need a song – I only want to be the one to get along….” Artistry at it’s finest. This was not the visual I was expecting but still above and beyond.

20. Boohoo (Jeremih)

It’s giving Beatles which I didn’t expect, but it works out for the best. I real feel good, cry if you’d like type of song, I suppose. I wonder how this song is doing on the pop charts because it certainly works for Jeremiah and the array of voices.

21. Burna Boy Interlude

Talk about singing from the soul! It’s an interlude that definitely gives you the feels and what’s next to come is nothing less than this energy. This is an “Allah” chant in a beautiful fashion, but what comes next is even more chilling…

**22. Kim Porter (Diddy, Babyface, John Legend)

This one screams, “I love you and lost you – but how could I?” Both Babyface and Legend create a melody of pure love in this song. I feel this in the deepest part of my heart. Every element of this song blends in an unimaginable way. From instruments, tempo, unique vocals, harmonies, the build of it all is passionate through and through. It also features excerpts from the late Kim Porter.

*23. Space (H.E.R)

Here we are at the end and “I’ve really enjoyed my time with you off the grid”, Diddy says before H.E.R. begins her eerie ballad. She’s the perfect woman for this. Diddy used his network and made a masterpiece….

What are your thoughts? Which tracks stood out to you?

Trey Joshua Releases “Fine to Me”

Trey Joshua

Meet Trey Joshua

Life is short, and in its haste, we must revel. The essence of youth is the here and now, a truth that Trey Joshua captures in his latest single, “Fine To Me.”

The 21-year-old artist from Toronto spawned the song in unconventional conditions, an outburst of creativity coming over him and his producer friend Ricky Tovey as the two found themselves with a group of friends at a camp in Muskoka. In the midst of the debauchery, the friends forged a summer bop that sells shoulders to sway.

“We were all drinking and partying, and after my buddies fell asleep, the producer Ricky and I were still up,” Trey explained. “We got bored, so we decided to make some music. Right then, he laid down the beat. Drums were kickin’, melodies were swingin’, and as soon as I heard it, I knew it was something real.”

The Creative Process

It took just 15 minutes for the duo to devise this dance tune, recording the original version in the cabin where they stayed. Trey and Ricky later showed what they’d made to their friends, and it became a staple for the rest of the trip. It taught Trey an important musical lesson.

“It’s funny how something so easy and simple can make so much sense,” he said. “If anything, the making of the song taught me that not everything in music has to be so calculated and precise. It’s totally okay just to feel and let flow sometimes.”

Trey Joshua

“Fine To Me” is Trey’s second release of 2023, following up his single, “Drunk,” from earlier this year. Its lyrics include themes of partying, love, and how they can intertwine. All with the expressed goal of getting you up on your feet.

“The dancing after the song was made also had a big influence on the strategy of how I wanted to promote the song, because what made me love this song more than anything was the sight of people I didn’t know dancing to it and having a good time,” Trey said. “I was just glad that a song I made had that effect on people and that I could be a part of their good time.”

What’s Next?

This is the beginning of what Trey intends to make a long career in music. The artist began his musical journey in 2018, taking major influences from XXXTENTACION, J.I.D., 6lack, The Tragically Hip, Bob Dylan, and Billy Idol, among others.

His story in music goes back to even before his birth, though. Trey’s parents met in 1994 at a Grateful Dead show in Vermont. Eight years later, they had their son and named him after the Phish guitarist, Trey Anastasio. Everything that brought Trey into this world pointed him toward one thing.

“It is no stretch to say that I was born to make music,” Trey explains in his Spotify artist bio. “I would go as far as to say that I believe I live only for the sole purpose of creating it. Music surges through my veins, entangles my mind, destroys, dissects, and dismantles my soul. Yet, it is my truest love.”

Straight Official Sit Downs: Twin Wun

TWIN YUN are a collective duo in Hip-Hop that finds themselves in the hot seat for this edition of Straight Official Sit Downs. Our main man @klassikceo served up the questions and it was a dope convo. Check it out down below and click here for more of the Straight Official Sit Downs.

Q&A WITH TWIN YUN

What is your Name? Where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

December DeyDey: The feeling of nostalgia, recollection, joy and introspection that we all feel in December, I want that feeling Dey to Dey. Also it Dey Day is a childhood nickname. At I think it was 3 years old I knew the words, (the most my toddler self could pronounce), to “All about the Benjamins”. Besides that my family was always very religious and the choir played a big role in my developmental years.

Uptown JR: Twin Wun is an acronym for T’was Written Is Now What U Need. We’re from Uptown Bronx, last stop on the 2,5, & 6 trains.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

December DeyDey: All forms of art inspired my creative curiosity. I listen to anything that resonates with me and even the obscure. Life though, life is one of my main sources of motivation to add my value in musical form, for now. If I had to name people, Jay Electronica, Nas, Jay Z, Tribe, Snoop and the Dogg Pound, Kendrick, Cole, Meek. The list can go on!

Uptown JR: Other artist inspire me to create, besides my own personal ambition drivers. I love being around another creative person in general just to feed off each others ideas.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

December DeyDey: Relatable, intentful, emotion based music.

Uptown JR: Chaotoic

What is your creative process like?

December DeyDey: Really varies, sometimes a whole song will flood my mind right before bed, no beat or anything. Other times it’ll be the connection to the beat that I feel or just the vibes nam sayin.

Uptown JR: Getting a 6 pack of Guinness & some Mary Jane. Linking with DeyDey & digging up emotions that took me years to bury.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

December DeyDey: I like to get in where I fit in, so I’m open to anything if the vibe is right. Would love to work with the greats though, you deem whoever you seem fit. But ultimately I do want a TDE and Dreamville team-wide collab.

Uptown JR: Outkast, The Lox, Tems, Solange

Twin Yun

SHIFTING GEARS

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

December DeyDey: Thank you! It means more than you know!

Uptown JR: Your either going to love me or hate me, but to find out all you gotta do is play me.

What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

Uptown JR: I played football in high school and won a championship my junior year.

December DeyDey: I can sing a lil bit, I just don’t display it much. Soon start!

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

Uptown JR: Internally dying at a 9 to 5.

December DeyDey: I don’t think ill ever stop writing, but if I had to choose something to do I would most likely be an A&R and a DJ.

Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

Uptown JR: Will Smith, Ludacris, & Drake because of their transition from music to acting and vise versa because that’s a goal of mine.

December DeyDey: Ive always admired Jay Electronica’s flow and delivery. His religious dedication and diction is stupid as well so I’ve always been a big fan. But ultimately anyone in the “conscious” sector has always appealed to me more. I feel like its a real approach to a genre that most people use for a release or vicarious living.

IN CONCLUSION

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Uptown JR: Be patient but aggressive every chance you get.

December DeyDey: KEEP GOING!

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Uptown JR: The pace of music. I feel we don’t have time to fully enjoy an artist like back in the days of Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston because artist come out now at a rapid rate.

December DeyDey: Most recognition and acknowledgment for mood music and radio play for independent artist.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

Uptown JR: Acting & as a household name.

December DeyDey: ROLLING LOUD AND SUMMER JAM!!!!!

Straight Official Sit Downs: TRIGGERRUN

TRIGGERRUN stopped by the Straight Official headquarters for this edition of Straight Official Sit Downs. The Hip-Hop Bounce legends sat down with @djspins and they chopped it up about music and more. Check out their 0ne-on-one down below and click here for more of the Straight Official Sit Downs.

TRIGGERRUN

Q&A WITH TRIGGERRUN

Please take time to introduce yourself and tell us where you’re from?

Hailing from Atlanta by way of Albany (the 229), TRIGGERRUN is composed of the following active members: K. Washington | A. K. Knegil, Herbert Bowens Jr. | H3theArtist & Nathaniel Whitfield | Syncere Akil.

What first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

TRIGGERRUN was inspired at an early age by their parents who introduced us to R&B Soul who encouraged us to pursue our creative talents which led to playing in the orchestra/band in elementary school and formulating one of the most illest dance crews ever to bless the Ruth Harris Performing Art Center at Monroe High School (Albany) a.k.a “the house that TRIGGERRUN built”.

Their love and passion for music would inspire them to share their gift of music on the world stage.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

The inspiration comes from the pure love of the musical art form and the ability to create an arrangement of sound thus turning it into a beautiful masterpiece.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

An eclectic mix of NY East Coast, Miami-bass meets the ATL Dirty South fusion.

What is your creative process like?

Our creative process is impulsive. Inspiration is often birthed at the most inopportune time therefore we have come to stay prepared to seize the moment. This often includes recording ideas in audio note format to capture initial thoughts, progressions or arrangements for later development.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

As of now, Jay-Z and/or Beyonce due to their international influence, which speaks volume about their influence and popularity in the music industry, as we look to expand our talents beyond the U. S. borders.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

It doesn’t matter! Whoever is open to collaborate. Collaboration is always good on any level whether TRUE or NEW school artistry.

TRIGGERRUN

SHIFTING GEARS

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

Music is for the young at heart so set the narrative, dare to be different & stay on your grind.

What hidden talent(s) do you have?

H3 is more of a renaissance brother who possesses many talents such as acting, singing, piano, guitar and drawing

AK’s talent includes singing, saxophonist, graphic arts and videography.

Syncere Akil possesses talents in videography, graphic arts and clothing brand apparel creation.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

As the athlete of the group, A. K. would be involved in youth sports mentoring and giving back to the youth teaching life skills through the game of sports.

H3 would continue pursuing his dream of theater and acting while focusing on his new love of charcoal drawing.

Syncere would be continuing to build his real-estate empire flipping houses while at the same time working on his clothing brand marketing for himself and the group.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

Rakim is one of the cornerstones that the foundation of hip-hop was built on. His style of MC and lyricism still reigns supreme until this day as one of the illest to ever bless the mic.

IN CONCULSION

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Stay humble, be prepared and when opportunity presents go for it!

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The hierarchy and structure of the business from the top executives that have exploited artists over the years through bad business ethics and contract disputes.

What’s next for you? Where would you like to see yourself next year?

Next is award nomination on this new independent platform in hopes of transcending and elevating another level of achievement in this game.

You dropped your latest release ‘2 Da Flo’. Tell us about it.

‘2 Da Flo’ is another eclectic party jam sponsored by the “Feel Good Music” vibe that TRIGGERRUN is an ambassador.  It’s a simple call and response song to get the people off the wall and onto the dance floor.

Also, working on the video so be on the look out for the video to drop around June of this year.

Any departing words for our viewers/subscribers?

TRIGGERRUN is streaming on all major platforms. Please follow, like and share and subscribe. Also, we want to say thanks to all of our fans, current and future, for your support and for taking time out of your busy schedule to build. LOVE!
