The Circle City is buzzing with winter officially behind us as many national recording artists and tours have made their way to Indy in just the past three weeks. While it’s all fun and work for me, the true pleasure comes from the noise that OUR artists are making right along with them! The talent here is undeniable and on the verge of making the nation finally wake up to Naptown.

I found myself back at Rich Harvest Studios in my travels and this time the feel was different. Not the quiet setting of the T. Harris interview, the studio office suite was alive with artists and producers working in one studio, a debut of Indy’s newest radio show in Studio B while models for The Numbers magazine prepped for photo shoots in another.

It felt like being in Def Jam’s studio office, but it was in Indy! Through the productive chaos, the CEO of Rich Harvest ILLY OCTANE emerges and is the calmest person in the room. We found space and sat down to discuss his ability to maintain as both H.N.I.C. and an MC.

“For me it’s always been about the music first. The effort as well as the time put into my craft is well-known with everyone I work with.” Illy draws inspiration from working with like-minded artists who match his drive for respect in the industry. His knack for business isn’t bad either as the partnership with the city’s hottest entertainment publication is evidence of that. “I’m able to maintain a business while remaining consistent to the art and movement of Hip-Hop.”

Rich Harvest intends to have an equally productive summer. With 9 mixtapes released last year, Illy wants to double up on the productivity from his camp. “With all of our success last year, the goal is to circulate our music outside of Indy to other DJ’s so they will recognize our  style.” In a city known for following trends, Illy will never settle for sounding like someone else. “We keep the mindset here that while we admire other artists, we have stay the course of originality and come out sounding just as good if not better than everybody else.”

Illy Octane’s newest project Humble vs Arrogant is available on iTunes which you can access with this link and check out the video for the hit single “Brickwall” down below.
