SOMag Presents The Fleet Files With Fleet DJs: DJ WillyBangz | @djwillybangz

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 700 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

Name: DJ WillyBangz

FLeet DJ Since: 2021

Location: New York City, New York

Region: NORTHEAST REGION/CONNECTICUT Fleet DJ’s

DJ WillyBangz

WHO IS DJ WILLYBANGZ?

DJ WillyBangz is genetically linked to being a DJ. Even before joining the Worldwide Fleet DJs, he was told at a young age this was his destiny. When I asked what drove him to become a DJ he confirmed, “I decided to become a DJ when my mom told me that I had it in my blood. I asked her what makes her say that and she told me that my father was a DJ, as well as my uncle.”

William Ubiles vested time into his craft, spending 10 hours a day perfecting his style. From transitioning records, remixing songs and mastering scratches that he wanted to learn how to do. Even conquering the art of what is called beat juggling in the DJ culture, he wanted to be the total package and that he is! WillyBangz would soon become known as DJ WillyBangz The Crowd Controller.

I asked Willy about the decision to join the Fleet DJs and he spoke on the coalition’s reputation. “I decided to become a Fleet DJ after hearing a lot of great things about the coalition from a long time friend, (Blackstorm) who is heavily involved in the music industry as well. He knew the skills that I possess and recommended that I become a Fleet DJ. After I did my home work on the coalition I said to myself this is something that I should do.”

DJ WillyBangz

At 13 my mom bought me a video tape. It was a DMC DJ Battle. After seeing that and becoming fascinated with the art form, I knew this is what I wanted to do in life.

DJ Willybangz draws inspiration from witnessing legendary DJs receive acclaim and acknowledgment. From greats like Kid Capri, Red Alert & Funkmaster Flex they have given him confirmation that he belongs. “Looking at their accomplishments, rewards and achievements gives me the inspiration I need to keep going. It lets me know that theirs room for me in this business & industry cause I got a lot going on.”

I asked Willy about the ups and downs of being a DJ. He spoke highly on being the best option saying, “When I do a party my goal is to not only satisfy my crowd to full capacity, but also satisfy whoever booked me as well. If it drives them to the point where they tip for my performance on top of my regular pay, this lets me know I’ve done my job & then some.”

As a member of Fleet, Willy dons several hats. He is co-owner, Program Director, & Social Media Manager of Vibing 102.3 MMR. He is responsible for 2 radio shows. The Back To The Future Radio Show which airs Thursday nights at 7pm EST. In addition, he runs Thee Almighty Mix Show which airs Saturday nights at 8pm EST on Strongside Radio which is located on the Fleet Radio Network app.

Every DJ has significance about how they got their stage name. Willy spoke on how he came up with his moniker. “I got my name by always being good at whatever I put my mind to. When I was a kid I wanted to draw, so I drew until I became good at it. It’s like when you say that someone “rocks” but I’m using the word “bangz” instead. So when I became great at DJ’ing, that is where I came up with WillyBangz and I just put the DJ in front.”

When he’s not listening to national artists like Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G, Willy is listening to his own music. When I asked him what can we expect from him moving forward, he gave us plenty to look forward to. “I currently have 3 mixtapes out under my Hip-Hop Havoc Mixtape Series Volume 1 & 2. They can be found on MyMixtapes.com, MixtapeFactory.com & Hip Hop Havoc. Volume 3 can be found on LiveMixtapes.com as well as MyMixtapes.com.”

When I asked Willy about any jewels of wisdom he would give to aspiring DJs he spoke on visualization. “Look at the industry as if it were a puzzle, vision the bigger picture in your head and start to put the pieces in place. Even the ones that don’t work at the moment matter, put them on the side cause you will eventually need them to complete the goal at the end of the day.

He continued, “It will take time but keep going because before you know it your mental creative picture will come full circle and the project of your future in this industry will become a beautiful portrait / painting that you will be able to frame surrounded by your accolades, never give up.”

DJ WillyBangz

It’s like a way of saying that something or somebody “rocks” but I’m using the word “bangz” instead. DJ WillyBangz, feel me.

DJ WillyBangz

I had the pleasure of meeting DJ WillyBangz at this year’s Fleet DJs Music Conference for the first time. His passion and drive make him a valuable member of the coalition.

I gave Willy the floor for shout outs and acknowledgement. “Let me give a super big shout out to my beautiful wife Elizabeth whom with out her support non of this would be possible. To my mom Janet & my second mom / aunt Ivette for all of their support throughout the years. My brother DJ Chill who is my business partner together we run Vibing 102.3 MMR (Moore Music Radio).

“Shout out to DJ Stone who is another of my business associates who helps us to keep the station running smoothly, Shout out to all my supporters out their who help me to push my brand, and a super big shout out to all of the artist who rock with me heavy who see my vision and are eager to bring it to life. I’d like to give all praises to the most high and invite everyone who took the time to read this to tune into my radio shows.”

“Last but most definitely not least you the reader who found my story interesting enough to read this fleet file long enough to get to this point, much love & big respect. Oh and don’t forget to catch me at a club, bar, or lounge near you, I’m outside you hearrrd!!! Salute.

Shif-T Da Nightchild Shares The Story Of Her Journey

shif-t da nightchild

We recently caught up with D.C native Shif-T Da Nightchild to talk about his latest single as well as getting a chance to know the DMV rapper & her journey through the rap game. Check out our one-on-one down below.

Q&A WITH SHIF-T DA NIGHTCHILD

DJ SPINS: How Did You Come Up With your Stage Name?

Well I was actually given the name Shif-T after collaborating on various music projects & performing with live bands. I’ve always real creative and versatile allowing me to be able to tap into different genres and markets. My names comes from being able to switch up my style and shift gears musically at any given moment.

The name “Da NightChild” came along from my Mom RIP because I’ve been an insomniac since birth. I would always be up at night and like to sleep in the day time like a vampire. I always wanted to carry a piece of my mom with me so I added Da NightChild onto the name Shif-T.

Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I’ve been surrounded by music my whole life, but after doing various studio work and performing on stage with  live bands I just found an forever love for music.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

What inspires me the most is that I’m able to express myself unfiltered and I can give the world me authentically never mind the judgements or prejudices. Everyday we face something different so, I like to pull from experiences and create something beautiful. Life is a big puzzle so we all have the power to create the masterpiece our hearts desire. I’ve created some of my best work going through the struggle and music has been my biggest therapy.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

I like to call my sound Urban Goth because it’s a mixture of hip-hop, trap and rock.

What is your creative process like?

I’m an introverted extrovert so I prefer creating late nights alone in my own space of comfort. For the most, I can be found listening to instrumental music with my headphones on and just zoning out, and allowing my creative juices to go wild. Despite comfortability though, I’m very adaptive like a chameleon and always open to new surroundings and creating magic with others.

shif-t da nightchild

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with the greats like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Sade, Mary J Blige,  Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Linkin park.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would love to open up for Linkin Park or Lil Wayne.

RAPID FIRE ROUND

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

My biggest message, I would give to my supporters is that all things are possible through God & that we are the true controllers of our destiny. Feel free to change, switch directions, or adjust as many times as needed, because at the end of the day we all are entitled to peace and happiness and to walk in our own purpose and truth.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I don’t believe in any talent being useless. A talent is a gift and a real blessing for anyone to possess for real.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

If I wasn’t doing music, I would honestly study psychology and become a therapist. I love helping and uplifting others, and finding easier ways to navigate through life. It’s about living a fulfilling life and in abundance, and I truly want peace, unconditional love and happiness for the entire species.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

I admire 50 Cent because he’s not just an amazing artist with hits, but he’s an entertainer and a smart businessman and that’s what it takes to survive in this industry. The music business is about way more than music and you have to learn it if you want to become successful and have longevity in the game.

shif-t da nightchild

I would also, have to say I admire Lil Wayne because he is limitless stylistically and crosses barriers most are afraid to tap into. As an artist you have to evolve with the time and be creative enough to make a lifelong impact and he has done that ten times over.

IN CLOSING

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I was given was to learn the music business and not just my artistry.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

If I could change anything in the industry it would be the direction of female hip-hop. I would like to see us project more lyrical diversity. We are not all the same and have different visions and perspectives, so it would be great if we could have a safe space and a new lane to present that.

shif-t da nightchild

You Dropped Your Latest Release Earlier this Year. Tell Us About It.

I have my new single out it’s called “The Journey” and it’s giving you a sneak peek into my world of ups and downs as I continue on my road to success. I feel we all face our own share of struggles and sacrifice, so I wanted to present something everyone can definitely relate to.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

In the next year, I want to drop more heart felt music for you to feel, set tours across the US & international, and make my brand (Phade 2 Green Productionz) a household name in the industry.

What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

My music is available on all streaming platforms. Feel free to follow The Journey…

Journalist Bae Presents MODEL BAE @originalmsbae

Missouri Fleet Model Manager and our beloved covergirl, Kayla Bae aka Model Bae steps up to let us know a little something about her. For your information, she didn’t hold back. So, let’s get into who exactly this phenomenal woman turns out to be!

I’m genuine person with pure intentions… No scams. No Fraud. Just REAL & RAW!

@originalmsbae

MODEL (BAE) BEGINNINGS

Kayla joined the modeling scene in approximately 2020 being in modeling/acting school. Since then – it has been up, as they say. Back then it was one model division for every Fleet DJ state represented. While she didn’t take it seriously at first, there was a “divine intervention” that told her to just go for it! For a while, it seemed like the model coalition had ghosted her and she had no place to turn. However, shoutout to Jo Marie for the “motivation to just start recruiting”. This is a prime example of “you can’t beat them, join ’em”. She ran the idea by MO Fleet leaders & they were fully on board! They had her back through it all from the flyers to the recruitment process being so supportive & helpful! Ms. Bae expresses her gratitude to the team and ultimately to herself for not giving up on that journey.

THE RE-GLOW UP

Since joining the Fleet team Model Bae has gained much more exposure and well-deserved confidence learning how to do interviews and also conduct them. She even had her own radio show for a while, that was a major opportunity for Model Bae. It allowed astronomical growth, not just as a model but also as a woman. According to her, Fleet not only changed her career but it changed her entire life. They allegedly believed in her when she didn’t/couldn’t believe in herself. The family aspect is the most important thing to Kayla. So it’s a blessing to be able to literally call one of the fleet brothers for anything fleet (or not) and they will be there.

I always say I’m taking Fleet with me wherever I go, this was my foundation and the start of everything for me! They literally have always treated me like a superstar. The love is so real.

@originalmsbae

MODEL MISSION

Model Bae’s mission is to continue to build up her modeling team and do as much as she possibly can within fleet. Though pausing on recruiting for now to fully focus on the two models she has, she strives to get more exposure, start doing events, raffles, photoshoots etc. for her team. Kayla makes it clear that she strives to be the best at everything she does & puts all into everything her name is on or behind. She states she would like to work with some celebrity photographers such as Blake Martin whom she met at a model conference in 2023. The model also want to work with big artists one day writing music for them. Writing is also a passion of hers outside of modeling. With that being said check out her debut single as a songwriter called 24 hours by Airrisa Reneè produced by MO fleet producer Eugene aka EMP records. The song is now out on multiple platforms!

GAME OVER?

So is this the end of the Model Bae era? She says it took a while to realize what modeling was for her but once she did -nothing or nobody could tell her otherwise. So, the answer is NO! NEVER! Before she started she didn’t know what to do with life. Feeling as if she wasn’t good at anything and didn’t have a purpose. Every one wanted to push sports on our good sis because of her height (i.e. Angel Reese), but knew that she hated playing sports so it made her feel bad for a while. Overall, she knew the love of being photographed & so many people would constantly say, “you should be a model.” When her bestie decided to do photography & did one shoot with Kayla & it ignited a fire in our star player! She’s been going ever since. “4 years later I’m more confident then I ever been in my whole life. Modeling gave me a family that I feel I belong to. It’s a place for me there & I love it,” Model Bae says.

T.M. Is Grinding For A Lil Turn Up

Vegas recording artist T.M. chops it up with Straight Official’s DJ Spins to get the latest insight on what’s been going on with the Sin City MC’s latest single. We also got to know T.M. a little better with this exclusive one-on-one interview.

Q&A WITH T.M.

How did you come up with your stage name?
My original music mentor DJ Drumajpr from Atlanta GA gave me my artist name.

Tell us where you’re from & what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
I was born in Meridian MS, but grew up in Atlanta, GA. I’ve lived in Las Vegas for the last 20 years. I grew up in a radio family. My parents owned both FM & AM radio stations. While most kids go to day care, I went to the radio station every day. They had multiple stations and multiple formats I was exposed to a plethora of genres and style of music.

Who and or what inspires you to create?
I find inspiration to create all around me every day in my day to day life.  Conversations can inspire a lyric or melody. I find a lot of melodies just come to me while I’m doing daily chores or cooking. I’m inspired by a lot of artist. Originally it was The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Nirvana. There was just something about the harmonies, the melodies. The catchy, repetitive, simplistic hooks.

How would you describe your sound?
I guess I’d describe my sound as a blend of pop, hip-hop, & dance music, with a tiny punk edge to it.  I like to tell people I make Feel Good Music. It’s different yet warmly familiar.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?
My creative process really has to be seen to be believed. I go to the studio and my producer/engineer BG3nius has a collection of tracks ready for me. I preview the tracks for about 30-45 seconds. If a hook doesn’t come to my head within that time we skip to the next track. If I’m collaborating with other artist we let the song loop so they can write there verses.

Meanwhile I drop my first verse 1 take off top. Then I’ll play that back,  If there’s anything I don’t like or something that comes to mind that I feel fits better I’ll do a 2nd pass at the verse implementing those changes. I’ll hit my double of the verse to get it some depth and warmth. Then I hit my adlibs. If collaborating I then let my feature artist do their verse. Double it up, and hit their allies. Then I’ll hit my 2nd verse in the exact same fashion. Sometimes taking a little inspiration from the verse feature artist just hit.

What artist would you like to collaborate with?
There are so many to be honest. Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Rhianna, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Drake, Ye, Marshmallow, Kayne Brown, Ed Sheeran, Rivers Cumo, Dave Grohl. Mike Hererra, Sauce Walkah, Swizz Beats, Scott Storch, Fat Joe & T.I.

T.M.

Never quit chasing your dreams Even if others don’t understand them. If it brings you any kind of joy you can never give up or in.

T.M.’s message to his fans

SHIFTING GEARS

What is the most useless talent you have?
I think all talent has a use. You just gotta find the right use at the right time.

What would you be doing right now if you weren’t doing music?
Music is just one piece of the puzzle so I’d probably still be fling all my other stuff. Real estate investing, Crypto Investing and the FM radio game  (I’m a co-owner of an FM star 94.3FM in Lihue HI)

Who are some artist you admire and why?
I kind of admire any artist that’s willing to take the risk of putting themselves and their art out there on public display to be critiqued, judged and interpreted or misinterpreted by others.

If you could change anything about the music industry what would it be?
I think the industry is rapidly changing for the first time in a long time. Artist have so many tools and resources at our disposal that it’s not necessary to have to depend on taking the traditional route of trying to get noticed to get signed by a label. We can get our music to the ears of people all over the world if we can learn how to utilize all these new tools for marketing purposes.

T.M.
“T,M” Latest Single Cover Lil Turn Up

IN CONCLUSION

Tell us about your newest release?
My newest release is titled “Lil Turn Up” It’s a collaboration of myself, Bg3nius, & Yung Salvo.  It’s a feel good vibes pop/R&B Dance song. Very upbeat and uplifting. It’s get you in the perfect vibe and mindset for an evening out on the town or a day out in the water. It’s really just an all-around pop banger. The kind of song you’d expect to see on Billboard Top 100.

What’s next for yourself ? Where would you like to see yourself next year?
#16. What’s next is I’ll continue to push this track with the team for a few months hopefully realizing our goal of landing on the Billboard charts. Then I plan in dropping my next single “Woooah” featuring my dude Zel later in the year on DJ Jay Spins Wild Dogs Entertainment imprint.  In a year, I’d like to be collaborating with all the big artists. Any and everyone off my previous list. Hopefully touring doing some bigger shows. With a few Billboard plaques on the wall with some platinum and gold records.

My family is big in doing music so I just followed up. I created my own wave and made an impact in the game.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

Raw, gritty and impactful. A way different vibe than most.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I’ll rock with Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Finesse 2tymes and many more

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

Lil Wayne because that would be major! I love his work effort.

Get up and do it yourself. Time waits for no man. I use that in everyday life. Get up and go to it.

Payne Escobar

SHIFTING GEARS

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

Thanks for supporting me and believing in my craft. I promise to never fall off and keep giving y’all the music you enjoy.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

Acting in movies. I also I have a movie that I’m starring in called Black Sheep airing on Tubi Tv and Prime Video.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

B.G  because bro came home from doing like 13 years in prison. Came back in the game like he never left. He never gave up on the dream.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change anything. I really don’t see any changing at this point. Its a lot going on in Hip-Hop today from my standpoint just being honest.

SOMag Presents The Fleet Files With Fleet DJs: DJ Starline | @djstarline.edm

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 500 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

DJ Starline

Name: DJ STARLINE

FLeet DJ Since: 2007

Location: MILFORD, CONNECTICUT

Region: NORTHEAST REGION/CONNECTICUT Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS DJ STARLINE?

DJ STARLINE is an accomplished member of the Worldwide Fleet DJ’s. Since joining the coalition in 2007, she’s been acknowledged and awarded for her dedication. From her three nominations at the 2022 Fleet DJs Awards to securing the 2023 Fleet DJ Raheem MVP Award, Starline has put in the work!

I asked her when was the moment that convinced her that she wanted to be a DJ. “When I saw videos of DJ AM (R.I.P.) and A-Trak putting on a show like no other, it inspired me to do the same. Their superhuman talents, charisma and energy convinced me (an introvert at the time) that I as a DJ can grow personally and professionally while developing new skillsets and talents.”

Affectionally known as Nina, Starline was vested in becoming a DJ four years prior to joining Fleet. Seeking to know the art of DJ’ing she attended and graduated from the Scratch DJ Academy in 2006. When I asked her what drove her to join Fleet, she spoke on a conversation while working with another Fleet DJ.

“I was working on a mixtape with a Vegas DJ, King Nade. He was telling me about this new DJ crew he joined and he was going on about how awesome it was to be part of a team like this. He asked me to join, specifically saying that there were no females on the team. We got on AIM. Messenger if you could remember that (laughs). Nade, Klassik the CEO, and his partner chopped it up. Then we had a few phone calls shortly after. Each time I spoke with them I could hear the passion in their voices as they explained their vision for the organization.”

She added, “Their drive to put the DJ in the forefront, especially newer DJs, really resonated with me.”

My mission is to make the world dance while forgetting about the drama. Let’s go!

While originally spinning Hip-Hop, Starline made a choice that would alter the course of her journey. In 2010 she would transition to electronic dance music. “I eventually made the move to electronic dance music (EDM) as the 2010s approached and to put it simple, I never looked back! I don’t regret the decision at all, just when I made that pivotal move it was only a matter of time before the actual EDM boom occurred between 2011-2013.

Currently she is the Assistant Manager of the EDM division of Fleet. In addition, Starline is the lead organizer of the Fleet DJ Raid Trains on Twitch. She remarked on her accomplishments early into her joining Fleet. “I joined the Fleet DJs and continued working while getting many opportunities to do projects with other DJ’s and artists. I provided monthly mix shows to popular stations of the time, such as, Sprint/Nextel Radio, Nokia Radio, Move Radio, Focus on the DJ and WWACN.”

When I decided to DJ the first person I told was my sister. She was so excited she jumped on her laptop and started creating a logo for me. She ended up with a star and an electric line going through it. So we came up with Starline

DJ Starline on how she got her name

DJ Starline is more than just a DJ. Outside of making the world dance she works in the medical field in the Orthopedic and Pain Management specialties. She added, “I’m also a web and graphics designer and video editor.” I asked her about some of the takeaways of being a DJ. She spoke on the experience that she’s given her clients.

“Giving memorable moments to happy clients and party goers during their special occasions as well as giving my loyal listeners, on digital platforms, a in-real-life inspired experience right at home or while they’re out n about. This always means the world to me!” She added, “business relationships I’ve developed during my journey as a DJ. I’ve crossed paths with other talented DJs and music industry professionals that have open doors for me in the business world and beyond!”

When she’s not listening to hit songs like Get Lower by Steve Aoki and Lil Jon, Starline finds inspiration by simply being a watcher of the game. “From watching the world’s best DJs, I learn by observing their mixing styles and stage presence. I also gain inspiration from the Fleet DJs that I work with every day!”

As we came to the end of our interview, I asked Starline if she had any words of wisdom for aspiring DJs. “Anyone trying to make a name in any industry, especially the music industry, must embrace the concept of networking. It’s simple, just put yourself out there and network like crazy! Always be open to meeting new people and creating relationships, more importantly you have to MAINTAIN those relationships, follow-up regularly!”

I gave her the floor to give her roses. “Big shout out to Straight Official Magazine & Radio, TenthLetterMedia,  FLEET DJS, THE FLEET EDM DJs, K102 DIGITAL, TASTE/DASH RADIO, CHICAGO 77.3, FLEET EDM RADIO, CTVIBE101, THE FLEET RAID TRAIN DJs, COMMUTER TRAX, URBAN $OUND, DAPLAYLISTER, EVERY ONE I WORK WITH ON A DAILY BASIS, AND OF COURSE THE STRAIGHT OFFICIAL READERS, MY LOYAL LISTENERS, FOLLOWERS AND SUPPORTERS — THERE WOULD BE NOTHING FOR ME TO DO WITHOUT YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT, I’M TRULY GRATEFUL FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU GUYS!
